Test:

Layout Portion (Note: All measurements are in standard form)

Testers will be given a blueprint and material. Testers will be expected to lay-out all measurements, based off of the given blueprint, onto the material given for testing. Once all parts have measured and drawn out, the Proctor will grade each piece, by measurement, and assign a score to the overall project.

Practical Portion:

Once the lay-out has been graded, the tester will be required to cut all pieces to length and width, using a torch for the test. (Tester must know how to set their own torch). Testers will not be allowed to clean or ring the cut edges. (This is how the Proctor grades the skill and quality of the cut). Once all parts have been cut, testers are required to use the given blueprint to dictate where each part needs to be placed. Once the part placement designations are complete, testers will be required to “tack” pieces together to form the overall projected test piece. Once the piece has been completed, the Proctor will grade the test, by measurement, to ensure that all pieces were cut correctly and placed in the proper location. “Tacks” or “tack welds” will also be graded by size, quality and location of placement.

Written Portion:

The written test will be completed after the lay-out and practical portion. The written test has a combination of the following:

Math

Marine Terminology

Blueprint
