NSC Staffing is seeking an Advanced Shipfitter / Fabricator for an exciting opportunity in Newport News, VA. This position offers the chance to work in a physically demanding and dynamic environment, including shipbuilding and steel fabrication. Position Overview:
As a Shipfitter, you will be responsible for reading and interpreting blueprints and assembly drawings, performing multi-pass tack welding, burning, heating, and assembling structural components. You will work with various tools and techniques to assemble complex ship parts, install hull inserts and penetrations, and ensure the ship's structural integrity according to specifications. Your role will require exceptional welding and assembly skills and working efficiently in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.

Pay:
$45/HR & $150 PER DIEM
Start date will be 1/7/26. Testing takes place the first week on the job, hair follicle drug screen required

Key Responsibilities:
Welding & Fabrication: Perform multi-pass tack welding using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) in vertical and overhead positions, following precise specifications.
Blueprint Interpretation: Read and comprehend complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, including weld symbols, material types, datum, and reference lines.
Fabrication & Assembly: Lay off piece parts for fabrication, assemble complex structural components, and ensure high-quality standards in line with specifications.
Oxygen/Propane Torch Use: Burning and heating torches assist in fabrication processes and metal preparation.
Vibratory Tool Use: Operate grinders and needle guns to finish workpieces and remove excess materials.
Compliance: Follow OSHA regulations related to the shipbuilding industry and maintain safety standards.
Hull & Structural Work: Erect, set, and make shell plates, decks, bulkheads, longitudinal structures, and other essential ship parts.
Install Foundations & Hull Inserts: Install and replace hull inserts and penetrations, ensuring the accuracy and alignment of all components.
Work Planning: Use work packages, molded lines, and ship reference lines to plan and execute the work required.

Qualifications & Experience:
Experience: At least 4 years of commercial or naval experience as a first-class shipfitter.
Skills:
Proficient in multi-pass tack welding (SMAW process).
Experienced with oxygen/propane burning and heating torches.
Ability to read and comprehend complex structural drawings and blueprints.
Experienced in the assembly and installation of structural ship components.
Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations within the shipbuilding industry.
Ability to use vibratory tools such as grinders and needle guns.
Expertise in erecting and setting up complex-shaped hull plates and structural parts.
Physical Requirements: Experience working in physically demanding environments (shipbuilding, steel fabrication, etc.) with the ability to handle manual labor and work at heights or in confined spaces.

Qualification:
All Shipfitters must pass a Multi-Pass Tack Welder Qualification Test upon reporting for the first day of work.
Process: Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
Filler Metal: MIL-10718-M (A-5A) Filler Metal of MIL-E-22200/1
Positions: Vertical (3F) and Overhead (4F) positions.
The test consists of:
One hour of practice.
One hour for the vertical test.
One hour for the overhead test.
Visual inspection of welds (Level I) for six hours.
