Operating Engineer
Project: Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind projects in Virginia

Work Location: Norfolk VA
Pay Rate: $50.00 / hour
Work Schedule: Average work week expected to be 84 hours/week (12 hour days). Work schedules will be rotational and involving helicopter or vessel travel to remote sites. (3 week Rotations)
Duration: Initially One Year w/ annual extensions expected

Position Details/Scope of Work:
Operating Engineer to support Dominion's Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind projects in Virginia/ Coastal Virginia. Position will be on an offshore vessel on rotational shifts.

We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Operating Engineer to support project activities on a major offshore wind project. This role involves operating and maintaining heavy equipment, cranes, and support systems on offshore wind farm installations, including turbine foundations, substations, and service operations. The individual must either hold current GWO, HUET and OEUK certifications, pass the Chester Step Test, OR be willing to take paid training. Candidate must pass all training to report for work. The Operating Engineer position will be a physically demanding, safety-critical position in the growing offshore renewables sector. Key responsibilities include: (1) Safely operate heavy equipment, cranes, hoists, and other machinery used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of offshore wind turbines and related infrastructure, (2) Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, (3) Assist in major component exchanges (e.g., blades, nacelles, gearboxes) and support rigging/lifting operations, (4) Work at heights (up to 100+ meters) and in confined spaces while adhering to strict GWO safety protocols, (5) Participate in emergency response drills and procedures as required, (6) Complete accurate daily logs, work orders, and safety documentation, (7) Collaborate with technicians, engineers, and other trades in a team-oriented offshore environment, and (8) Maintain a strong safety-first culture and comply with all project-specific safety, environmental, and operational standards.

Education Requirements:

Certification: Operating Engineers Certification Program (OECP) or NCCCO or Equivalent Crane Certifications. Preferred experience in a post-apprenticeship position, preferably in industrial/offshore settings, oil & gas, construction, manufacturing, or onshore energy. ASafety-first mindset with experience in hazard analysis and risk management is a must.
Mandatory 5-day GWO training, HUET, Chester Step and OEUK are required prior to reporting for duty. Mandatory to obtain Offshore Crane Cert prior to rotation. If candidate already has this, they need to provide their valid, unexpired training documentation.

Physical Requirements: Working conditions may be physically demanding and located in hazardous environments with exposure to heights, noise, weather, and confined spaces, and work shifts may be both in remote locations and long (12+ hours/day). The individual hired for this role must be able to complete all training and medical certificates, which may include BMI calculation, weight limits, blood pressure testing, lung function, general physical examination w/ assessments of climbing stairs, lifting up to 50 lb., emergency escape, exoskeletal health and mobility, as well as vision and hearing tests, and aerobic fitness testing like the Chester step test. Individual must be capable of working in challenging offshore conditions, have the ability to climb wind turbine towers, work in confined spaces, and perform heavy lifting, and must be comfortable with rotational offshore schedules (typically 14-21 days on / off).
