Job Opportunity: Inside-Shop Machinist (CNC & Heavy Duty) $37.50 and $140.00 per diem

Are you a precision-driven machinist with experience handling massive industrial components? We are seeking Inside-Shop Machinists for high-precision roles for a major ship building company in the Newport News, VA area. This position focuses on the machining of large-scale weldments and castings for naval applications.

Role Overview
This is not your average machine shop role. You will be operating heavy-duty Horizontal Boring Mills (HBM), Vertical Turning Centers (VTC), and specialized CNC lathes. You must be proficient in manual data input (MDI), tooling offsets, and setup for non-fixtured parts.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Machine Operation: Setup and operate large-scale manual and NC machines, including HBMs with travel ranges up to 500" and tables supporting 100 tons.
2. Heavy Machining: Perform large shaft machining on Tacchi CNC lathes and manage heavy weldment/casting setups.
3. Technical Execution: Apply strong mathematical skills to navigate complex mechanical drawings, blueprints, and threading requirements.
4. Precision Measurement: Utilize outside/inside micrometers, depth mics, and verniers to ensure tolerances are met.
5. Process Management: Manage carbide machining, drilling, and tapping processes.

Specific Equipment Needs
We are currently looking for specialists for the following machines:
1. Giddings & Lewis HBMs: (PC-50, PC-60, and 800 RFX models) using Fanuc or G&L controllers.
2. Schiess Froriep HBM: Massive X-travel (43') and Y-travel (20') with Siemens controllers.
3. Mitsubishi HBM: (MAF-RS150C) with Fanuc controllers.
4. Pama Gantry Mill: (Vertiram GT 4600) for large-scale milling.
5. Tacchi CNC Lathe: For large shaft machining (71" swing, 73" between centers).

Required Qualifications
1. Experience: Minimum two (2) years of experience as an Inside-Shop Machinist.
2. Apprenticeship: Completed Machinist or Tool & Die Apprenticeship is highly recommended.
3. Controller Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Fanuc, Siemens, or G&L controllers.
4. Setup Skills: Proven ability to set up large weldments and castings on non-fixtured parts.
