Job Opportunity: First Class Rigger $27.50 and $140.00 Per diem

Riggers provide the vital "kinetic energy" of the shipbuilding business. We are seeking powerhouse candidates for work in the Newport News, VA area who can masterfully handle everything from delicate electronic equipment to the massive structural components that form the backbone of a naval vessel.

Role Overview
As a Rigger, you are the logistics and movement expert of the shipyard. You will be responsible for the safe lifting, manipulation, and setting of ship components, as well as the operation of heavy equipment and the maintenance of a safe working environment through scaffolding and ventilation.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Heavy Equipment Operation: Operate a vast majority of shipyard cranes, tug boats (for ship movement and mooring), and a wide assortment of forklifts with varying capacities.
2. Complex Lifting: Calculate weights, centers of gravity, and lift point capacities. Determine angles imposed on handling gear to select the appropriate rigging equipment for every task.
3. Structural Support: Erect, maintain, and dismantle specialized scaffolding to provide safe working platforms in complex physical locations.
4. Environmental Safety: Install and maintain ventilation equipment onboard ships to prevent the development of dangerous atmospheres in confined spaces.
5. Tool Management: Assist in the purchasing, maintenance, and issuance of the wide variety of tools used throughout the shipbuilding process.

Basic Qualifications
1. Education: High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
2. Physical Agility: Must pass a Physical Agility Test. Ability to lift at least 40 lbs.
3. Mobility: Must be comfortable working at extreme heights and within small, confined spaces. Ability to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb is essential.
4. Medical: Must be able to take and pass a respirator fit test.
5. Availability: Must be able to work any assigned shift based on production needs.
