360X Staffing is hiring for Structural Fitters in Paducah, KY.
Pay: $25/hr+ $100 daily per diem for days worked
Job Summary
We are seeking experienced Structural Fitters for barge and vessel repair operations. Candidates must be capable of fitting and aligning structural steel components, reading blueprints, performing tack welding, and washing welds using an oxy-acetylene cutting torch. Work includes repair and replacement of damaged steel on barges, hopper barges, decks, bulkheads, frames, and other marine structures.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Read and interpret shipyard drawings, blueprints, sketches, and repair specifications
Lay out, fit, align, and assemble structural steel components for barge repair
Repair or replace hull plating, stiffeners, bulkheads, decks, framing, and structural members
Operate oxy-acetylene cutting torches for: Burning and beveling steel Washing welds and removing defective weld material Preparing surfaces for reweld and fabrication
Perform tack welding to secure fitted components prior to final welding
Use hand tools, grinders, magnetic drills, chain falls, come-alongs, and measuring equipment
Verify dimensions, tolerances, and alignment before welding
Work safely in confined spaces, elevated areas, and outdoor marine environments
Follow shipyard safety procedures and hot work requirements
Assist welders and other crafts as needed during repair operations
Qualifications
Previous experience as a structural fitter in a shipyard, fabrication shop, or heavy industrial environment preferred
Experience with barge repair or marine structural repair strongly preferred
Must be able to wash welds with an oxy-acetylene torch
Must be able to perform tack welds using SMAW/FCAW processes
Ability to read tape measures, blueprints, and fit-up drawings accurately
Knowledge of marine structural components and steel fabrication practices
Ability to pass fitter and tack welding tests if required
Preferred Skills
Experience working on hopper barges and tank barges
Knowledge of SMAW and FCAW welding processes
Familiarity with carbon arc gouging and torch washing techniques
Experience using rigging equipment and overhead cranes
Work Environment
Outdoor shipyard and marine repair facility
Exposure to welding fumes, grinding dust, heat, noise, and heavy equipment
Overtime and weekend work may be required based on production schedules and vessel repair timelines
Working Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
Working Hours: 50+ hrs/week
