[Fitter] Steel Fitters needed ASAP in Indiana!

Pay: $26/hr+ $130 daily per diem for days worked

We are seeking experienced Shipyard Fitters for a barge construction facility in Southern Indiana. Fitters will be responsible for laying out, fitting, aligning, and preparing steel components for welding during the construction of new barges. The ideal candidate will have hands-on shipyard or heavy steel fabrication experience and be proficient with oxy-fuel torch cutting, tack welding, and washing/cleaning welds with a torch.

Essential Responsibilities
Fit and align structural steel components according to drawings, measurements, and shipyard specifications.
Read and interpret basic shipbuilding drawings, blueprints, and measurements.
Use an oxy-fuel cutting torch to cut, bevel, trim, and prepare steel components.
Perform tack welds to hold plates, stiffeners, brackets, and structural members in position.
Wash welds with a torch to remove excess weld material and prepare areas for fitting and final welding.
Use grinders, clamps, come-alongs, wedges, jacks, and other fitting tools to properly align and position steel.
Assist welders by ensuring joints are properly fitted, aligned, cleaned, and ready for welding.
Measure and verify dimensions, angles, gaps, and alignment throughout the fitting process.
Follow welding procedures, job specifications, and shipyard safety requirements.
Work safely around cranes, rigging, welding operations, heavy steel, and moving equipment.

Required Skills & Qualifications
Previous experience as a shipyard fitter, structural fitter, marine fitter, or heavy steel fitter.
Strong torch-cutting skills using oxy-fuel equipment.
Ability to perform quality tack welds.
Ability to wash welds with a torch and prepare weld areas for subsequent welding.
Ability to work with carbon steel plate and structural members.
Ability to read basic drawings and use a tape measure.
Familiarity with shipbuilding, barge construction, or heavy industrial fabrication preferred.
Ability to work safely in an industrial shipyard environment.
Must be able to work at heights, in confined areas, and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
