About the Position

Nationwide Skilled Trades is seeking experienced Marine Electricians – J2 for a full-time opportunity with a leading shipbuilding and marine industrial client in Norfolk, Virginia.

The Marine Electrician will perform electrical installation, repair, troubleshooting, testing, and maintenance aboard vessels. Candidates should have marine or shipyard electrical experience and be comfortable working from electrical schematics, blueprints, technical drawings, and shipboard specifications.

This is a 2nd shift opportunity for an experienced electrician looking to continue or advance their career in the marine/shipbuilding industry.

Responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical systems and equipment aboard vessels.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Plan and lay out electrical equipment and cable installations.
• Install, terminate, route, and secure electrical cabling and components.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems and diagnose problems to the component level.
• Perform electrical testing and circuit analysis using appropriate test equipment.
• Use VOMs, Meggers, amp meters, phase rotation meters, and other electrical testing equipment.
• Perform electrical repairs and installations according to job specifications.
• Work with other electricians, trades, supervisors, and inspectors to complete assignments safely and accurately.
• Follow applicable shipboard electrical installation standards and procedures.
• Complete work with minimal supervision while maintaining safety and quality standards.
• Assist with training and guidance of less-experienced electricians when required.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area.

Safety & Shipboard Responsibilities

• Verify required work authorization and safety documentation before beginning work.
• Ensure safe working conditions exist within tanks, compartments, and other work areas.
• Follow hot-work and confined-space requirements when applicable.
• Use appropriate PPE and safety equipment.
• Maintain awareness of changing conditions within work areas.
• Follow all site-specific safety procedures and shipboard requirements.
• Maintain proper housekeeping and leave the job site clean and safe.

Qualifications

• Previous marine electrical or shipyard electrician experience strongly preferred.
• Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics and blueprints.
• Experience installing electrical equipment and cabling.
• Experience troubleshooting electrical systems and components.
• Familiarity with electrical testing equipment.
• Ability to work aboard ships and in confined or tight spaces.
• Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding and work at heights when required.
• Ability to lift and carry tools and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Reliable attendance and transportation.
• Must be able to obtain required DBIDS and NAVSEA badges.
• Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and occasional extended hours as required.

Physical Requirements

This is a physically demanding shipyard position. Candidates must be comfortable with:

• Working aboard vessels.
• Climbing ladders and scaffolding.
• Working at heights.
• Working in confined and tight spaces.
• Standing and walking for extended periods.
• Bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and pulling.
• Carrying tools and materials up to 50 lbs.
• Working in varying temperatures and industrial conditions.
• Wearing required PPE and respiratory protection when applicable.

Candidates must also be able to meet applicable near-vision and color-vision requirements for marine electrical work.
