Project Management Quality Services (PMQS) is actively hiring experienced First Class Sheet Metal Mechanics for a long-term opportunity at a shipyard in Newport News, Virginia!

POSITION DETAILS

Position: First Class Sheet Metal Mechanic
Location: Newport News, VA – Shipyard
Pay: $32/hour
Per Diem: $120/day for qualified non-local candidates
Contract Duration: 2 Years

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Minimum 3 years of experience as a First Class Sheet Metal Worker.

Experience installing foundations, ventilation systems, bulkheads, and shipboard furniture.

Experience with sheet metal fabrication and shop work.

Marine experience preferred, but aircraft, industrial, and commercial sheet metal experience is accepted.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and complex ventilation assembly drawings.

Understanding of weld symbols, material types, datum lines, and reference lines.

Ability to accurately measure using fractional and decimal dimensions.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Fabricate, assemble, and install sheet metal components on aircraft carriers, submarines, and other surface ships.

Install ventilation systems, metal bulkheads, framing, foundations, and shipboard furniture.

Work on cabinetry, lockers, ladders, handrails, weapons spaces, and wet spaces.

Assemble components according to detailed technical drawings and specifications.

Use hand tools, electric drills, grinders, rivet guns, and measuring instruments.

Operate shop equipment such as drill presses, press brakes, and shears.

Follow all quality standards, technical work documents, and safety procedures.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

U.S. Citizenship REQUIRED.

Must pass a Background Check (BGC).

Must pass a Hair Follicle Drug Test (HFT).

Must be comfortable working in a shipyard environment.
