Project Management Quality Services (PMQS) is actively hiring experienced First Class Structural Welders (Pulse Arc) for a long-term opportunity at the Newport News shipyard in Virginia!

POSITION DETAILS

Position: Structural Welder (Pulse Arc) – X18
Location: Newport News, VA – Shipyard
Starting Pay: $38/hour
Pay for Pulse Arc Work: $45/hour after passing the required Pulse Arc test
Per Diem: $120/day for qualified non-local candidates
Contract Duration: 2 Years
Shift: Flexibility required

IMPORTANT: NAVAL SHIPYARD EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!

Candidates MUST have at least 4 years of experience as a First Class Welder at Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) or another naval shipyard.

REQUIRED WELDING EXPERIENCE

SMAW (Stick Welding) – Multi-pass fillet and butt welds.

FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding) – Multi-pass welding in all required positions.

GMAW (MIG Welding) – Structural welding experience.

GMAW-P (Pulse Arc Welding) – Pulse Arc welding experience.

Experience with oxygen/propane heating torches.

Proficiency in Air Carbon Arc Gouging.

Ability to properly use fillet and butt weld gauges.

Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations in shipbuilding.

Experience working aboard ships, on ladders, staging, and in physically demanding environments.

WELDING TEST REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must be prepared to pass the following qualification tests:

1. SMAW – STICK WELDING

2G – Horizontal

3G – Vertical

4G – Overhead

2. FCAW – FLUX-CORED ARC WELDING

2G – Horizontal

3G – Vertical

4G – Overhead

3. GMAW – MIG WELDING

2G – Horizontal

4. GMAW-P – PULSE ARC WELDING

2G – Horizontal

3G – Vertical

4G – Overhead

5. ADDITIONAL TESTING

Air Carbon Arc Gouging Proficiency Test

Visual Inspection of Welds – Level I

Welder Vision Test

IMPORTANT: All required welding qualification tests must be passed WITHOUT TRAINING at the Newport News Welding School before beginning productive work.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

U.S. Citizenship REQUIRED.

Must pass a Background Check (BGC) and employment verification.

Must pass a Hair Follicle Drug Test (HFT).

Must meet required confined-space, respirator, fall-protection, and PPE qualifications.

Must be flexible with shift assignments.
