NOW HIRING! PMQS IS LOOKING FOR HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATORS IN NEWPORT NEWS, VA – $20.66–$27.31/HR + $120/DAY PER DIEM!

Project Management Quality Services (PMQS) is actively hiring experienced Heavy Equipment Operators for a long-term opportunity at the Newport News shipyard in Virginia!

POSITION DETAILS

Position: Heavy Equipment Operator – O46
Location: Newport News, VA – Shipyard
Pay Rate: $20.66–$27.31/hour
Per Diem: $120/day for qualified non-local candidates
Contract Duration: 2 Years
Shift: Flexibility required – overtime and weekends as needed

IMPORTANT: HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!

Candidates should have experience operating backhoes, excavators, and dump trucks, along with a strong understanding of safe excavation practices and working around underground utilities.

REQUIRED HEAVY EQUIPMENT EXPERIENCE

Backhoe Operation – Experience operating backhoes for excavation and site work.

Excavator Operation – Experience operating excavating equipment safely and efficiently.

Dump Truck Operation – Experience driving and operating dump trucks.

Knowledge of excavation procedures in areas containing multiple underground utilities.

Ability to perform manual labor and assist with site operations.

Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.

Good driving record.

Willingness to become a qualified equipment operator on assigned machinery.

EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Heavy Equipment Operator trade school training preferred.

Previous on-the-job training will be considered in place of formal trade school education.

Candidates should be trained in operating excavating equipment, including backhoes and excavators.

Experience driving and operating dump trucks is highly desired.

Willingness to complete additional equipment qualifications as required.

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must be physically capable of performing demanding work in an industrial shipyard environment.

Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Ability to perform physically demanding manual labor outdoors.

Ability to climb and descend inclined and vertical ladders of various heights.

Ability to work in kneeling, crawling, stooping, squatting, and bending positions.

Ability to work in extreme temperatures and varying weather conditions.

Ability to work in high-noise, dusty, or smoky environments.

Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and flexible shifts based on plant operations.

REQUIRED SAFETY TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must meet Newport News Shipbuilding safety requirements, including:

1. CONFINED SPACE SAFETY

Confined-space training in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1915 Subpart B.

2. HAZARD COMMUNICATION

Hazard communication training in accordance with applicable OSHA standards.

3. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)

OSHA-compliant PPE training.

Eye and face protection.

Head protection.

Foot protection.

Hand and body protection.

Hearing protection.

4. HEARING PROTECTION & TESTING

Training in the proper use of approved hearing protection.

Audiometric testing documenting hearing function.

Compliance with applicable OSHA hearing conservation requirements.

5. NEWPORT NEWS SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Newport News-approved safety glasses.

White hard hat displaying the labor provider's company name.

Approved muff-type hearing protection.

Required safety training and medical clearance documentation must be completed and approved before assignment.

IMPORTANT: All required safety training, medical clearances, and PPE requirements must be satisfied before beginning work at Newport News.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

U.S. Citizenship REQUIRED.

Must pass a Background Check (BGC).

Must pass a Hair Follicle Drug Test (HFT).

Must have a good driving record.

Must be able to perform physically demanding outdoor work.

Must be willing to work overtime and weekends as required.

Must demonstrate strong safety awareness and quality workmanship.

Must be willing to obtain additional equipment operator qualifications.
