Project Management Quality Services (PMQS) is actively hiring experienced Inside Machinists / Large Machine Operators (M53) for a long-term opportunity supporting ship and submarine construction in Newport News, Virginia!

POSITION DETAILS

Position: Inside Machinist – Large Machine Operator
Location: Newport News, VA – Shipyard / Machine Shop
Pay Rate: $37.50/hour
Per Diem: $120/day for qualified non-local candidates
Contract Duration: 2 Years
Shift: Flexibility required
Work Locations: Newport News, Copeland Industrial Park, or Oyster Point, as assigned.

IMPORTANT: LARGE INDUSTRIAL MACHINING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!

We are seeking experienced machinists with a strong background operating Horizontal Boring Mills (HBMs), Vertical Turning Centers (VTCs), and large CNC or manual machining equipment.

Candidates with 6+ years of Inside Machine Shop experience and hands-on large-machine experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

REQUIRED MACHINING EXPERIENCE

Horizontal Boring Mills (HBM) – Experience operating large horizontal boring mills for precision machining.

Vertical Turning Centers (VTC) – Experience operating large vertical turning equipment.

CNC & Manual Machining – Ability to operate lathes, mills, horizontal and vertical machining centers, and other industrial machinery.

CNC Controllers – Experience with Fanuc, Siemens, Acramatic, Cincinnati-Milacron, or similar systems.

Machine Setup & Programming – Familiarity with numerical control processes, manual data input (MDI), tooling offsets, and conversational controllers.

Precision Measurements – Experience using inside/outside micrometers, depth micrometers, verniers, and precision measuring instruments.

Threading & Gauging – Knowledge of threading processes and measuring requirements.

Drilling & Tapping – Experience performing drilling, tapping, and machining operations.

Carbide Machining – Familiarity with carbide cutting tools and machining processes.

Blueprint Reading – Ability to interpret complex mechanical drawings, blueprints, and machining specifications.

Large Component Machining – Experience setting up and machining large weldments, castings, and non-fixtured parts.

Strong mathematical skills and attention to dimensional accuracy.

SPECIALIZED MACHINE EXPERIENCE – HIGHLY DESIRED!

We are especially interested in machinists with experience operating any of the following equipment:

HORIZONTAL BORING MILLS

Giddings & Lewis PC-60 – Fanuc Controller.

Giddings & Lewis PC-50 – Fanuc Controller.

Schiess Froriep FB 225/200 – Siemens Controller.

Giddings & Lewis 800 RFX – G&L Controller.

Mitsubishi MAF-RS150C – Fanuc Controller.

Cincinnati Horizontal Boring Mill – Fanuc Controller.

OTHER LARGE MACHINING EQUIPMENT

Pama Vertiram GT 4600 Gantry Mill – Siemens Controller.

Tacchi HD/3 CNC Lathe – Fanuc Controller.

Large Vertical Turning Centers (VTCs).

Large industrial lathes and machining centers.

IMPORTANT: Experience operating large-capacity machining equipment, including heavy castings, weldments, and oversized components, is highly valued.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum 2 years of Inside-Shop Machinist experience listed in the general requirements.

The specialized large-machine requirements specify 6 years of Inside Machine Shop experience.

Hands-on experience with Horizontal Boring Mills and Vertical Turning Centers.

Machinist or Tool & Die Apprenticeship listed among the required skills.

CNC machining experience preferred.

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Ability to troubleshoot machining operations and perform dimensional quality inspections.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

U.S. Citizenship REQUIRED.

Must pass a Background Check (BGC).

Must pass a Hair Follicle Drug Test (HFT).
