Job Description
PMQS – Project Management Quality Services is seeking experienced Riggers for long-term shipyard assignments in Newport News, VA, and Norfolk Naval.

Riggers play a critical role in shipbuilding operations by safely lifting, moving, positioning, and securing heavy machinery, structural components, and equipment throughout the shipyard.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment.

Rig, lift, move, and position ship components, including pipes, valves, pumps, motors, machinery, and structural steel.

Calculate load weights, centers of gravity, lifting capacities, and rigging angles to select appropriate lifting equipment.

Select, inspect, and properly use rigging gear for lifting operations.

Assist with ship movements, mooring operations, and material handling.

Erect, maintain, and dismantle scaffolding.

Assist with the installation and maintenance of ventilation equipment aboard ships.

Coordinate with crane operators and shipyard personnel to safely complete lifting operations.

Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum 2 years of hands-on rigging experience required.

Knowledge of rigging equipment, load calculations, and heavy material handling.

Ability to work at extreme heights and in confined spaces.

Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.

Must be flexible to work assigned shifts.

U.S. citizenship required.

REAL ID or valid passport required.

Must be able to report to Norfolk Naval and complete the DBIDS access process.

Must pass a background check, hair follicle drug test, and physical agility test.
