Basic Job Description
Perform testing and commissioning of large, high voltage substation expansion projects.
Responsibilities
Perform testing and commissioning of large, high voltage substation expansion projects.
Perform testing/routine maintenance of Transmission and Distribution substation power equipment, relaying (electro-mechanical, solid state and micro-processor), controls and voltage regulating equipment
Electrical equipment testing of current transformers, potential transformers, battery systems, power line carrier for large electric utility for 13kv and above power systems
Writing procedures and/or test plans in support of large electric utility for 13kv and above power systems
Testing, including (without limitation): calibrating all relays; applying settings to relays; programming LTC/regulator controllers.
Perform routine troubleshooting and repair of substation relaying and control equipment in Distribution substations
Plan, schedule, and complete test activities efficiently, on time, without service interruptions
Education
Required: Associate of Electrical Technology (AET) or the equivalent specialized training in system protection
Preferred: Bachelor of Electrical Technology (BET), Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Master of Science in Electrical Engineering
Work Experience
Required: Minimum of 5 years of field experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing and repairing substation relaying and control schemes for large electric utilities for 13kv and above power systems
Preferred: Experience is desirable in any of the following related areas: substation commissioning; SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment installation and testing
Required Qualifications
3 phase power systems; power system protection & control schemes; test equipment; test equipment software
Test equipment and tool/wiring usage; interpretation of wiring and elementary diagrams; basic test skills to perform duties listed above, basic PC skills
Ability and willingness to work out of town
Understand and follow applicable equipment and clearance procedures and safety practices
Reference and complete assignments as described in applicable specifications
Valid drivers license and a good driving record
Perform regular field work both indoors and outdoors
Quick learn and apply test procedure for various types of substation equipment
Self-motivated, with a positive can-do attitude
Enjoys working in a hands-on environment
Good analytical and problem solving skills
Exercises good communication, negotiation, organizational and time management skills
Results-oriented; capable of scheduling and completing testing with minimum supervision
