Job Title: Transmission Planning Engineer
Position Location: Houston, TX
Position type: Full time Perm
Job Description:

Perform advanced transmission system analyses that may include the following types of studies: steady-state power flow, short circuit, voltage stability, and transfer capability, steady state power flow, short circuit analysis, voltage stability and transfer capability

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Perform power flow studies to determine system improvements needed to maintain transmission system reliability.

Perform short circuit studies to determine system improvements needed to maintain transmission system reliability.

Perform stability studies to determine system improvements needed to maintain transmission system reliability.

Represent Company on applicable ERCOT and NERC committees.

Work cooperatively and jointly with other departments within the company.

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from accredited college or university.

Experience:

Requires a minimum of five (5) years of electric utility or power engineering related to transmission planning which may include transmission line design or substation design.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, Certifications, and Licenses:

Requires a Professional Engineer’s Registration in the State of Texas or another state and actively pursues registration in the state of Texas.

Skilled in using power system modeling software PSS/E to model and evaluate transmission systems.

Able to work and communicate effectively with technical, legal, and regulatory personnel.

Able to perform studies accurately with a minimal amount of supervision.

Able to demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills.

Able to prioritize and schedule tasks, pay attention to detail and demonstrate good organizational skills.

Able to work and participate successfully in a team environment to accomplish assignments.

Able to work well with both technical and non-technical personnel to gather and exchange information, resolve issues, plan activities and meet or exceed objectives.

Able to manage time effectively, handle multiple tasks and priorities, operate under general direction, develop own work methods as required yet follow standard procedures and determine when management is to be consulted on unusual situations.

Able to exercise discretion, tact and good judgment in dealing with co-workers, customers, vendors and the community.

Able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, listening ability and business acumen to communicate effectively with co-workers, customers, vendors and the community.

Able to provide and maintain a valid state driver's license and safe driving record.

Able to comply with all company driver safety policy requirements.
