Position Summary: Provide general accounting support, including the preparation and review of journal entries and other accounting activities related to the general ledger closing process for companies.

Principal Accountabilities:
1. Perform general ledger accounting functions, including journal entry preparation and review, general ledger account reconciliations, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, balance sheet reviews and detailed account activity analysis.

2. Participate in the monthly accounting closing process, including the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly and year-to- date account variance analyses.

3. Review and analyze monthly account activity for accuracy, support and financial integrity.

4. Prepare, review and/or assist in the of FERC financial reports on a quarterly and annual basis.

5. Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual GAAP financial statements, accompanying footnotes and MD&A.

6. Prepare, review and/or assist with the preparation and review of internal management reports ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial data.

7. Respond to data requests from internal and external auditors.

8. Provide appropriate support and analysis of regulatory filings and proceedings.

Minimum Requirements: Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or Business with a concentration in Accounting
Experience: Minimum 3 years' experience.

REQUIREMENTS - OTHER: These are additional expectations for the job and could include specific work experience, license / certifications, preemployment testing, expectations about travel, shift work, etc.

1) Exposure to and familiarity with the utility industry preferred.
2) CPA or progress towards certification preferred.
3) Public accounting experience and/or experience with the client-side of an audit.
4) Strong competency in written and oral communication.
5) Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word required and PeopleSoft experience preferred.
6) Detail oriented with an ability to employ a logical approach to accomplish objectives and solve issues.
7) Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions and adapt to changing circumstances and requirements.
8) Ability to work as part of a team and possess excellent time management and organization skills.
9) Continuous improvement mindset with the following competencies: Adaptability, Flexibility, Creativity and Initiative.

Accounting Operations area responsibilities:
• Ensure the accounting system applications (PeopleSoft, Power Plant, and Wausau) process timely and accurately in order to meet monthly closing and other critical schedules.
• Support application integrations within PeopleSoft, Power Plant and Wausau systems.
• Follow and interpret accounting rules/releases and work closely with Accounting Policy and Research to coordinate the implementation of such changes into accounting processes.
Regulated Accounting area responsibilities:
• Responsible for ledger accounting for Regulated Operating Companies, Transmission Segment, Service Corporation, Parent Corporation and employee benefits accounting.
• Ensure the accurate and timely issuance of quarterly and annual FERC filings and state regulatory filings for seven utility companies.
• Identify areas of accounting and financial reporting risk.
• Coordinate regulatory orders with Regulatory Accounting Services, Comm, Derivative and Energy Accounting:
• Responsible for the accounting, and internal controls related to Commercial, Derivative and Energy Accounting.
• Works with financial statements that are applicable SEC and FERC and state utility commission accounting and disclosure rules.

Comm, Derivative and Energy Accounting area responsibilities:
• Responsible for the accounting, and internal controls related to Commercial, Derivative and Energy Accounting.
• Ensure the disclosures and financial statements comply with applicable SEC and FERC and state utility commission accounting and disclosure rules.

Financial Reporting responsibilities:
• Works on the timely and accurate filing of some SEC reporting for registrant subsidiaries.
• Other annual reports required for financing, leasing or regulatory requirements.
• Publishing of internal reporting packages to management.
• Keep abreast and stay informed of the latest rules, regulations and reporting requirements of the SEC, FASB and FERC.
• Ensures compliance process for Sarbanes-Oxley internal control processes.
• Prepares reports for external auditors to ensure timely review/audit of all applicable reports.

Corporate Accounting area responsibilities:
• Responsible for all GAAP, SEC and FERC accounting research policy positions.
• Research, document and assist in implementation of new GAAP.
• Research and document accounting for acquisitions, dispositions and impairments.
• Perform depreciation studies, testify before regulatory commissions and assist in implementation of new depreciation rates.
• Research and document consolidation and variable interest entity accounting guidance and lease accounting issues.
• Assist Regulatory Accounting Services in research and documentation of Regulatory Assets and Liabilitie
