UTILITY SUBSTATION COMMISSIONING ENGINEER

This position will work directly for Shermco, but act as the end user's quality control engineer on brownfield utility substations.

Job Responsibilities
•Travel to customer worksites in a multi-state area.
•Perform work directly for and with client end-users .
•Review client substation design schemes for accuracy and practical application.
•Overseeing the changeout of HV breakers, protective relays, transformers, ground grid, and other electrical equipment associated with substations.
•Responsible for reviewing the work performed by Testing & Commissioning technicians to ensure upgrades are carried out per the design schemes.
•Be responsible for ensuring work is fully and accurately completed per design scheme and sign-off prior to energizing substation.

Required Experience and Education:
•Must have a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems from an ABET accredited university; high level technicians with 15+ commissioning experience will be considered.
•10 or more years of experience working for a electrical utility or substation testing company.
•Experience in the implementation of substation designs including high-voltage switchgear, transformers, power distribution, circuit breakers, protective relay schemes, overhead collection systems, overhead and underground transmission lines.
•Previous experience as a Substation Commissioning Engineer.
•Knowledge of calculations and analysis of power distribution systems preferred including voltage drop, load flow, and short circuit studies.
•Working knowledge of local codes and standards such as NESC, NEC, NFPA, ANSI & IEEE
•Knowledge of SEL transmission relays and development of setting files.
•Strong communication skills and previous experience interfacing with internal and external customers
•Must be able to pass a criminal background check, drug testing and a good MVR report.
•Willingness to travel and/or relocate a plus.
