Substation Project Manager - Chicago, IL

Contract / Temp to Direct / Direct Hire: Contract

Planet Forward has an full time permanent opening for a Substation Project Manager to support one of our major utility clients in Chicago, IL.

Candidate must be able to focus on all portions of substation projects (ex. must be able to work on retrofit projects and then move to smart grid projects)
Must be HANDS ON
Can be flexible with commute and daily start time (come in early and leave early or come in late and leave late)
Once candidate is up and running (within first several months) they will have about 30% travel
Must have a Masters Degree and be PMP certified

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate project team personnel and resources
Enhance and maintain relationships with clients, designers, and consultants
Compile reports regarding financial performance of the project
Attend and lead project meetings, including progress, pre-construction, and pre-award
Develop and maintain site logistics plans, in coordination with the project Superintendent
Prepare trade contracts and bid packages, as well as oversee procurement process
Oversee cost control and change management systems
Set-up QA/QC procedures and conduct quality inspections
Communicate and enforce corporate Safety and Health Management Program

Skills and Qualifications:
5-10 years of experience with Project Management required with experience in the Utility Industry and/or possessing knowledge of electric distribution, transmission, and substation projects.
Bachelorís degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field is required.
Candidate must possess experience in understanding blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to view time/cost/labor estimates for projects and services.
Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office Products required.
Ability to prepare construction schedules in Microsoft Project preferred.
Must have excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, written, and communications skills.
Must be a team player and able to work with various partners from start to finish.
Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times.
Ability to delegate work appropriately.
