Relay Technician needed for full time opportunity in Texas - Road Warrior - Benefits, 401k PTO Included.


SUMMARY:
Perform work associated with the installation, operation, testing and maintenance of all protection and control devices and related equipment under direct, immediate or general supervision

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform work associated with the installation, operation, testing and maintenance of all protection and control devices and related equipment under direct, immediate or general supervision
• Such devices and equipment include but is not limited to digital relays, electromechanical relays, intelligent electronic devices, Station Disturbance Recorders (SDR), digital fault recorders (DFR), oscillographs and event recorders, RTU's and station SCADA systems, statistical load metering, telemetering and transducers.
• Perform installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance of protective relaying equipment, relaying schemes DFR equipment, SCADA systems, distribution automation systems and associated communication equipment
• Review one-line diagrams and control wiring diagrams
• Perform point to point checks on control wiring
• Perform commissioning, calibration, operational and functional tests on multi-functional solid-state protective relays utilizing a 3-phase test set
• Configure and modify protective relay settings in accordance with specs.
• Troubleshoot protection and control schemes involving multi-functional solid-state relays
• Record start and ending time every day, for each project or contract supported via the prescribed time reporting system. Review and approve team time submissions
• Provides single face and voice for TDS to client - Relationship skills are vital
• Interfaces with all project, project engineer and program managers on behalf of client

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Typically, 10+ years of relevant experience on commissioning projects in a direct contributor/ lead role with at least 5 years of project experience in an L2 capacity.
• Previous experience with commission process deliverables such as change management, systemization, acceptance testing, and turnover.
• Experience on lage size capital, maintenance, and upgrade project (greenfield project, additional train(s), compressor/pump station, etc) with complex and non-routine workflows.
• Understands role and elements of commissioning process (pre-commissioning, systemization, budget, org structure)
• Capable of developing budget, resource plan, and deliverables for assigned system
• Typically, 10+ years’ experience as team lead and/or supervising resources.
• Orchestrates systemization and resource allocation for assigned project deliverables.
• Review construction prints, make corrections as needed, confirm schemes will function properly. Work with the Relay Design Engineer to resolve any problems
• with the protection and control schemes.
• Review all aspects of the mounting and wiring of relays, cabling from panel to panel, and terminating of all cables by electricians.
• Review and correct as needed, the Operating Instructions as issued by Relay Engineering personnel.
• Review all settings as issued. Working with the Relay Settings Engineer/SME, resolve all problems with the logic and protection settings.
• Coordinate with others to schedule and sequence each phase of the project. Provide protection to all equipment throughout the duration of the project. This may require temporary settings, wiring, etc...
• Apply settings and calibrate all relays.
• 3 phase power systems; power system protection & control schemes; test equipment; test equipment software
• Must be able to demonstrate SAFE electrical troubleshooting skills using basic and advanced test equipment
• Recognizes safety hazards and follows safety guidelines for personal protection, protection of fellow workers and the protection of the public.

Education:
High school diploma/or equivalent
Apprenticeship
Technical training

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to work outside (heat, cold); climbing; kneeling; crouching; lifting up to 50 lbs; pushing up to 75 lbs of force; pulling up to 85 pounds of force
