Substation Technician - Travelling Role

Three (3) openings - immediate need - Virginia - Start as soon as possible - 4 week assignment (+-)

Substation experience a must - 2 years minimum.

As a Substation Tech, you will provide skilled craftsmanship for maintenance and installation of electrical substations.


Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools
Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components
Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system
Installs, repairs, and maintains transformers, generators, lights, circuits, wiring, and other electrical system equipment and components in compliance with electrical codes, standards, and regulations
Studies plans, drawings, and specifications to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs and/or installations
Repairs and maintains high voltage systems
Reading prints, layout work and installing new service
Repairs electrical problems by replacing faulty parts and components
Maintains electrical systems by conducting system tests; completing preventive maintenance requirements
Maintains safe work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with codes
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications
Accomplishes maintenance and organization mission by completing related results as needed
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
Installs below grade conduit and grounding, above grade conduit and grounding
Installs substation steel and equipment, electrical bus work and jumpers
All other duties as assigned

Must be able to speak and understand English
Requires some ability to read plans

Must demonstrate emotional intelligence; being aware of the motions of self and others
Must be able to operate equipment such as: hydraulic press, crimpers, hand tools, ratchet cutters, band saws, sawzall, knockout set, conduit bender, etc.
Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk crouch, kneel, climb and periodically lift up to 50 lbs
Ability to operate equipment such as: telehandler, mini excavator, back hoe and skid steer a plus
Strong teamwork orientation
Positive attitude and professional customer service skills
Detail orientation


A high school diploma or GED is preferred
Trade or technical school certification/diploma is a plus
Apprentice aptitude test is required
Project specific training is required
Minimum of two years related experience
Current driverís license
