Job Title: Senior Transformer Specialist
Location: Houston, TX area (Nationwide travel required)
Start Date: June 2025
Salary Range: $94,500 – $115,000 base salary + Performance Bonus/Commissions
Job Description:
SuperTran is a growing business in the power distribution industry, focused on delivering custom transformer products and support across the U.S. As demand for our transformers increases, we're expanding into field services to provide commissioning, testing, warranty support, and service to our customers.
We're looking for a capable and experienced Senior Transformer Specialist to help us build and lead this new service devision. This is a hands-on, leadership-driven role that includes field commissioning, warranty response, equipment testing, and direct customer interaction. In addition to fieldwork, this individual will play a critical role in establishing operational procedures, creating service workflows, quoting and scoping jobs, managing projects from start to finish, and helping define the standards and structure of the department as it grows.

Key Responsibilities:
• Perform and supervise transformer testing procedures including, but not limited to, Doble testing, Turns Ratio (TTR), insulation resistance, power factor, Tan Delta, winding resistance, SFRA, excitation current, polarity checks, and dielectric withstand. Familiarity with oil analysis coordination and bushing testing is preferred.
• Maintain, calibrate, and manage test equipment to ensure accurate and reliable field results.
• Install, commission, repair and maintain transformers from 480V to 500kV.
• Test and support related systems, including switchgear, circuit breakers, instrument transformers, and cables.
• Serve as the primary technical expert representing SuperTran in customer-facing meetings and planning sessions, offering input on project scope, scheduling, and service strategies.
• Fully manage field projects: develop budgets, create schedules, coordinate crews, ensure jobsite safety, and manage documentation.
• Exercise independent judgment in planning and executing service work, resolving field issues, and defining service delivery standards.
• Develop and implement training programs for new field service technicians.
• Tailor, edit, and maintain transformer manuals and internal procedures to align with actual field practices.
• Oversee subcontractors and lead jobsite meetings, including daily safety briefings and end-of-day debriefs.
• Operate and manage oil processing equipment and coordinate equipment rentals as needed.
• Update and mark up technical drawings to reflect field changes, and maintain complete and accurate as-built documentation.
• Ensure compliance with applicable technical and safety standards, including IEEE, NETA, and ANSI.
Requirements:
• 5+ years of direct field experience installing, commissioning, repairing, and maintaining power transformers ranging from 480V to 500kV. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to lead a crew through the complete installation and startup of high-voltage power transformers from start to finish.
• Strong mechanical and electrical skills (including experience with breakers and switchgear)
• Proven leadership and site management
• Comfortable being forward-facing with customers and representing the company professionally
• Ability to prioritize, strong time management skills, work independently, and perform under pressure
• Comfortable with frequent, last-minute travel by car and air
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record
• Able to lift 75 lbs., climb ladders, and pass a fit-for-duty physical
• Must pass a background check and drug screening
• Familiarity with PowerDB and Microsoft Excel
Preferred Qualifications:
• NETA Level III or IV certification
• OSHA 30 certification and NFPA 70E training preferred
• Experience writing training or technical documentation
• Experience coordinating with OEMs, EPCs, or utilities
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
• Military experience welcomed (e.g., Army Prime Power, Navy Seabees, Air Force Electrical Power Production)
Work Environment:
This is a hybrid field and office-based role. The individual will work from a home office base, with regular regional and national travel to job sites. Field shifts may range from 8–10 hours, up to 5 days per week. As SUPERTRAN develops its service facility and warehouse, the role may eventually include in-office time as well. Some weekend work may be required for specialty or time-sensitive projects.
Compensation and Benefits:
This is a full-time, salaried position with a base pay range of $94,500 to $115,000, depending on experience and qualifications. The role includes eligibility for performance-based bonuses and commission potential tied to service project success and departmental growth.
