Talascend is currently seeking a GIS Specialist for a contract opportunity with our client in Richmond, Virginia.
Overview
The GIS Specialist will work primarily in the field, utilizing GIS technologies for data collection and design suggestions based on field data. This role supports the Joint Use program and fiber design, requiring good communication and accountability.
Responsibilities
Work as a member of the Joint Use/Fiber Make Ready Team to conduct in-field GIS data collection.
Use GIS technologies to route for fielding and spend most of the day in the field using GIS/Fielding equipment.
Collect field data using proprietary software to update utilities GIS and make design determinations.
Translate and process data to the team.
Come up with engineering designs in the field and communicate them back to the team.
Qualifications
BS in GIS, Engineering Technology or related field, or equivalent experience
Requirements
Experience using Esri's ArcGIS suite or other GIS software.
Ability to withstand changing field conditions.
Good communication skills.
Ability to work in teams of 2.
Must have availability to stay in a hotel when traveling over 1.75 hours M-Th.
Valid Driver�s License and ability to maintain a rental car.
Ability to carry 40+ lbs.
Previous outdoor experience.
Experience with Work Management Software.
Travel throughout Dominion regions in Virginia and North Carolina, may require regular, weekly overnight travel.
Shift
Standard work hours with the possibility of 10-hour days. The role requires being in the field 90% of the time and may involve overnight travel.
