Position: Interconnection Engineer (Hybrid – Remote/Hicksville, NY)
Location: Tristate Area Candidates Only
Schedule: 2 weeks in-office training → Hybrid (2 days/week in office)
Travel: ~10% for client site visits and witness testing
Role Overview
Work with the electric utility team to process and review small generator interconnection applications (primarily solar and battery storage). Ensure projects meet technical and safety standards before connecting to the grid. Coordinate with developers, contractors, and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
Process residential and commercial interconnection applications (0–10 MW), including technical screening and status updates.
Respond to developer inquiries, resolve portal/application issues, and track application deficiencies.
Lead monthly reporting for interconnection metrics and regulatory compliance (e.g., NYS DPS).
Attend field meetings, conduct on-site witness testing, and oversee compliance with Small Generator Interconnection Procedure (SGIP).
Maintain project accounting and budgets in SAP; coordinate with Cost Engineers/Analysts to track financials.
Analyze contractor invoices/change orders against progress reports and budgets.
Participate in policy and technical forums related to interconnection standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred) or related technical field.
1–3 years’ experience in electrical utility, power engineering, or related role.
Strong understanding of AC/DC systems, transformers, and utility protection/control equipment.
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
Strong project management and organizational skills (manage 15–20 projects simultaneously).
Proficiency in Excel for data management and analysis.
Strong communication skills for coordination with developers and internal teams.
Preferred
Experience in electric utility transmission/distribution roles.
Knowledge of SGIP tariff and interconnection processes.
Familiarity with renewable and non-renewable distributed energy resources.
