DNJP21623 – Protection and Controls Engineer IV – Charlotte, NC – 12 months

Description:

*Full time, hybrid, 3 days/week in office* Description: This position performs engineering conceptual design, studies, calculations, and protection settings development for substation protection systems. Primary job responsibilities will be focused on the application of new protective relaying for existing infrastructure or new transmission system capital investments. Additional responsibilities include providing protective relay settings support and troubleshooting for protection systems as well as the development, implementation, and maintenance of protective device settings templates (transmission line protection, transformer protection, bus protection, capacitor protection, etc.). Job responsibility will be managing and responding to Protection System settings tasks in the team’s planner tool. This will include fielding requests from Account Management, Distribution, Transmission Planning, System Performance, and other teams within PGO-Transmission. The candidate will also be supporting Transmission Capital project work and will be responsible for QA of OLR’s and protection system settings. Required Qualifications: - Experience in the utility industry. - Familiarity with Aspen Relay Database, Aspen OneLiner, CymTCC, SEL-5010, SEL-5030 AcSELerator software. - Understanding and experience with NERC Compliance Standards including but not limited to: PRC-006, PRC-023, PRC-025, PRC-026, PRC-027, CIP-010, CIP-002, FAC-008. - Familiarity with electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor-based relaying. - Familiarity with relay protection schemes and relay logic for a variety of applications (Transmission Line, Bus, Transformer, Breaker Failure, Capacitors, Etc.) • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of routine problems in area of expertise. • Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees. • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches associated with the resolution of routine technical problems. • Conducts basic engineering studies requiring little evaluation or ingenuity. • Possesses knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures. • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files. • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally. • They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is fairly complex and varied. - ≥ 15 years discipline experience and a unique SME skill.
· Familiar with SEL products

· Transmission background and experienced with Relay Settings

· Experienced in Protection Systems and settings

· High Voltage projects up to and beyond 500KV

· Experienced in developing calculations, program devices on the relay systems

· Familiar with compliance and standards such as PRC27 or PRC23 standards

· Experience with Accelerator, Quick Set

· Able to do calculations and set points

· Familiar with Autocad

· Will need to be in the office every Tuesday the other 2 days can pick to be in office.

· Working with a team of 20 (10 on each team)
