Position Summary: NEAR CHARLESTON, SC

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Civil/Structural Substation Engineer to support the design and development of electric substations ranging from low-voltage distribution facilities to extra-high-voltage transmission stations. This role offers the opportunity to work on critical infrastructure projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, design, and execution of civil and structural engineering components associated with new substation construction, upgrades, and modernization projects. This position provides the opportunity to manage projects from concept through construction support while ensuring compliance with company design standards, industry codes, and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Design
• Perform civil and structural engineering design for low-, medium-, high-, and extra-high-voltage substations.
• Develop project scopes, conceptual designs, engineering calculations, specifications, and construction packages.
• Design and support:
o Civil site development
o Grading and drainage plans
o Foundation systems
o Structural steel systems
o Security fencing
o Oil containment systems
o Substation physical layouts
• Coordinate permitting activities and regulatory requirements.
• Review engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with applicable standards, specifications, and quality requirements.
• Support construction activities by providing technical guidance and resolving field engineering issues.
Procurement & Contract Support
• Develop procurement packages for engineering services, construction contracts, and material purchases.
• Prepare bills of material, specifications, and construction drawings for procurement and construction activities.
• Support sourcing and acquisition of:
o Structural steel
o Conductors
o Connectors
o Insulators
o Switches
o Oil containment systems
o Construction services
o Stocked and non-stocked materials
• Collaborate with procurement, project management, and construction teams throughout project execution.
Quality & Project Execution
• Adhere to established quality assurance and quality control standards.
• Ensure designs meet project schedules, budgets, and performance objectives.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and vendors.
• Support project closeout documentation and engineering record maintenance.
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and engineering software tools.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a collaborative team environment.
Preferred
• Experience in civil, structural, site, or foundation design.
• Experience supporting utility, power generation, transmission, or substation projects.
• Knowledge of permitting, construction practices, and engineering design standards.
• EIT certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain licensure.

Pay: $45-$75 per hour PLUS $110 Day per Diem (approximately $40K annually in per diem)
