Position Summary: Reports to the Engineering Group Supervisor; additional duties will include technical oversight and leadership of Control Systems design engineers, and periodic reporting to PEM. Responsible to produce high-level conceptual drawings and task execution documentation within the Control Systems discipline. Properly interprets and applies codes & standards, customer design requirements and scoping documentation, for the preparation of Control Systems design documents. Achieves and promotes continuous work process improvement. Champions non-proprietary electronic data interchange and integrate automation technology where practical. Must express thoughts and ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and written. Demonstrates leadership qualities with emphasis on continuous improvement and team building, and interpersonal communication skills. An in-depth knowledge of all 50+ NASA Program Subsystems is essential. Responsibilities: Review of and input to Project SMSs. Preparation of system design descriptions. Preparation of logic diagrams and functional block diagrams. Preparation of specifications and material requisitions. Selection of instrumentation and control valves based on system application requirements. Preparation of instrument index and I/O list using automated tools, using supplier inputs, as applicable. Oversight and coordination of the Communications system design including IRIG-B and CS-5 timing distribution system, high speed digital camera network, operational TV camera network, transmission network, wireless and wired business network infrastructure, operational intercom system, and telephone system. Review of vendor drawings to ensure proper interface and compliance with the technical requirements. Conducts checking of discipline deliverables. Review of other engineering discipline drawings and close coordination with other disciplines and functions. Responsibilities also include ensuring that the subsystems design complies with all applicable NASA technical requirements, installation codes, regulations, and standards. May interface with Construction and Subcontractors. Provide support and coaching for junior and new hire engineers. Assist in the input and guidance of corporate engineering database systems that provide design information to construction and startup organizations. Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) configuration in support of Factory Acceptance Testing. Perform material and engineering hour estimates to align schedule and resources with changing requirements and customer needs. Qualifications and Skills Basic Qualifications: BS degree in related field with at least 9 years of relevant experience; or in lieu of degree, 15 years of relevant experience. Must have 9 years of experience in Control Systems Engineering developing documentation for Conceptual, Preliminary and Final Design. Minimum Qualifications: Lead or supervisory experience of an engineering team. Hands-on Microsoft 365 office suite, VISIO, and other computer programs. Extensive knowledge and application of Codes and Standards related to Control Systems work. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, along with effective presentation skills. Must have the ability to achieve a Professional Engineer's license within one year of hire. Must be able to effectively communicate and work well with others and within a team. Must be able to collaborate well with other disciplines and functions. Must be able to travel to manufacturing facilities within U.S. to support PLC factory acceptance testing and other business-related meetings/activities. Ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions and multiple tasks Preferred Qualifications: Previous company and/or DOD or DOE project experience. A good knowledge of NASA work methods, installation details and technical requirements. Previous EVMS training, including Primavera P6 scheduling and estimating experience. A history of integrating AutoCAD and 3D software to issue engineering drawings and populate database information. Knowledge of automation of schematic details utilizing company corporate database tools. Design experience to NASA communication standards and network architecture (including Allen Bradley DLR experience).
