JSG is currently aiding our client in their search for a Manager of Information Systems located in North Charleston, SC. This is a direct hire opportunity with relocation assistance provided.
The Manager of Information Systems is the senior management position reporting to the Director of IT & Security and having responsibility for the department for all technical and user support activities, workstation standards and configuration, and system security. Plans, manages, coordinates, and participates in activities dedicated to providing data and voice communications, technical support, maintenance, and troubleshooting on hardware, electronics, phones and software applications used for administrative and operational purposes, including but not limited to ERP/Engineering/Operations/Administration systems. Manages and provides advanced technical guidance to staff on a wide variety of installations, upgrades, repairs, and implementations. Administers local and wide area networks, data security, and related systems. Requires the ability to integrate these services, optimize usersí access to technical support and troubleshooting, and ensure secure, continuous operations and plans for future growth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops, maintains, and evaluates procedures, standards, capacity, and infrastructure
required to provide flexible and cost-effective information technology services to ensure
effective and efficient MIS services to all departments
Participates with department heads in planning and design of network infrastructure.
Participates in business planning for the department and in assessing the effectiveness of
information systems. Oversees planning and construction of all IT related systems.
Configures, maintains and participates in installation of directory structures, security
applications and software. Specifies data communications requirements and wiring and
hardware layouts for new or existing capacity.
Provides programming design and development skills as required.
Supervises and participates in the installation, support, and maintenance of ERP and
specialized applications. Supports the software, hardware, applications,
and overall systems operational and business environments. Oversees standards,
documentation, security, patches, fixes, and upgrades.
Develops strategies, guidelines, and methodologies to support vulnerability management
including but not limited to: virus protection, intrusion detection, firewalls, VPN, off-site
storage, disaster recovery, replication, security management, and software licensing.
Oversees installation and configuration of all network users, computers, printers,
modems, cabling, peripherals, servers, routers, and hubs. Ensures a common approach to
configuring network protocols, security, and policy files governing user access.
Provides a range of troubleshooting to resolve network hardware and operations
problems, including but not limited to connectivity, internet access, email and file
Ensures that calls and personal inquiries and problems associated with usage of computer
software, hardware, all electronics, input and output of information, and data
transmission, and are handled efficiently and on a timely basis.
Trains, assigns, and reviews the work subordinate professionals and technicians.
Establishes communications with academic and administrative departments, orienting them to the scope of user support. Establishes controls and standards to assure consistent site-based technical support.
Researches trends in technical support activity to determine the system or training needs of the department. Maintains a broad knowledge within current and emerging
technologies and participates in broad range technology planning.
Evaluates required network and policy, implementing changes as required to meet
compliance on a yearly basis.
Manages and participates with IT staff in the installation of networked equipment.
Customizes applications software and other associated programs and files to enhance user
productivity and technology support activities.
Recommends and administers department budgets and prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports for internal and external requirements.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
The position requires specialized professional knowledge of MIS systems, hardware and software and of computer systems and operations, including the principles, techniques, and complexities associated with networks, the relationship and usage of various input and output components, business and aviation support software, and terminology. Requires in-depth knowledge of the organization and operations of a hardware and software technical support function. Requires in-depth knowledge of ERP systems and relational databases.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The position typically requires Bachelorís Degree with a concentration in one or more of the following areas: computer science, information technology, networking, microcomputer hardware and software components, microcomputer operating systems, data communications software, or a related area and 5-8 years of senior level MIS experience in a networked personal computer hardware/software environment working with Microsoft operating systems.
Requires industry experience within hospitals, school systems or the military.
