GRSi is currently supporting a program within one of the largest NIH ICs which plays a central role in providing and supporting the resources needed to further the biomedical research mission of the institute. This program provides the infrastructure and support functions for which all the user research and funding data is derived, moved and stored. It also hosts applications that are used by other institutes and by other offices within Health and Human Services (HHS).
This position supports the Security Remediation Special Project and it is a System Administrator position with Linux OS experience, supporting the NHLBI. This role's primary focus will be an operational role focusing on security remediation i.e., remediating vulnerabilities, findings from penetration tests, manual patching cleanup, EOL software and operating system upgrades, etc.
The Senior Desktop Cybersecurity Engineer will possess BigFix patching experience to maintain, upgrade and manage our software, hardware and networks. Resourcefulness is a necessary skill in this role. You should be able to diagnose and resolve problems quickly. You should also have the patience to communicate with a variety of interdisciplinary teams and users. Your goal will be to ensure that our technology infrastructure runs smoothly and efficiently, and that vulnerabilities are remediated.
Install and configure software and hardware
Manage network servers and technology tools
Set up accounts and workstations
Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements
Troubleshoot issues and outages
Ensure security through access controls, backups and firewalls
Upgrade systems with new releases and models
Develop expertise to train staff on new technologies
Build an internal wiki with technical documentation, manuals and IT policies
Areas of focus include:
Device Patching & Check-in Policy Implementation
Cylance Anti-Virus SW Implementation
Configuration Compliance Cleanup Efforts -- Mac SysOps - Presently pending local account cleanup before application across agency - Once application is applied there could be workstations that need manual remediation - track down, investigate, and remediate issue.
Bachelors degree from an accredited institute in a relevant discipline (information systems, computer science or engineering, etc).
10+ years of experience
Proven experience as a Desktop Engineer
Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management
Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery
Ability to create scripts in Python, Perl, PowerShell or other languages
Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms
Experience with batch patching via BigFix
Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude
Excellent communication skills
Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
Professional certifications and licenses relevant to Mac OS, BigFix, and Systems Administration
