Edgewater is seeking qualified candidates for Communications & Security Systems Technical Specialist opportunities for our customer in Houston, TX and Greenville, SC to support Nuclear Power projects.
Work Location: in office in Houston, TX or Greenville, SC preferred.
A remote/hybrid arrangement may be considered.
Per Diem is available for those who quality.
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Education
Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and seven (7) years of work-related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to eleven (11) years if non-degreed; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements.
Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
Job-related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job.
Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines.
Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.
Job Description:
Under general supervision, acts as a fully competent Technical Specialist in all conventional aspects of the subject matter or the functional area of the assignments.
Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Demonstrates interpretive, patterned thinking, and requires minimal guidance. May function as CommSec Lead on a task force or special assignment, coordinating the activities of the Task Force Engineers and Designers.

Maintains and follows established schedule for assigned area.
Performance is satisfactory when Technical Specialist demonstrates ability to keep key items in assigned area of work within Project defined schedule parameters.
Prepares estimates for assigned portion of project.
Performance is satisfactory when Technical Specialist completes equipment estimate to the required level of detail, reviews bulk material estimate and tests for accuracy, compiles complete and concise documentation, and is properly prepared for Department/Project review.
Assists in developing or upgrading Engineering Standards and Procedures; assists other departments with respect to CommSec requirements in developing and upgrading their Standards.
Performance is satisfactory when Technical Specialist makes a concerted effort to implement and evaluate Departmental Standards and Procedures on assigned Project(s) and to assist other departments with their standards and procedures regarding CommSec requirements.
Check calculations, sketches and layouts.
Performance is satisfactory when Technical Specialist monitors and checks work of subordinates in sufficient detail to ensure quality production and proper development of Technicians, Engineers and Designers assigned to assigned area/specialty.
Participates in state-of-the-art engineering seminars; engages in Management Development and other training programs.
Performance is satisfactory when Technical Specialist takes advantage of opportunities offered for Technical/Management training.
Responsible for review of Supplier's drawings Performance is satisfactory when Technical Specialist demonstrates ability to effectively supervise the approval of Supplier Drawings for an area or commodity, including Supplier interface and expediting throughout the production and approval cycle.
Prepares specifications, calculations, sketches and diagrams.
Performance is satisfactory when Technical Specialist demonstrates ability to produce clear and concise specifications for major and complex equipment, performs system studies and analyzes results for complex systems (using both computer aided and manual techniques), and demonstrates ability to complete conceptual development for major systems.
Inspects equipment at the factory to ensure compliance with specifications and procurement documents.
Performance is satisfactory when Technical Specialist establishes test and inspection procedures for major equipment orders and successfully completes inspection assignments for complex equipment and systems.
Implements training development of Personnel assigned under his/her responsibility
Performance is satisfactory when Technical Specialist shows a sincere effort to develop subordinates assigned to the group through inclusion in technical meetings with suppliers, circulating technical data (reports, studies, calculations), properly delegating and discussing work assigned to associates, and devoting ample time to answering questions. Performance is satisfactory when Technical Specialist completes progress/performance reports and conducts counseling sessions to promote employee development and accepts departmental assignments for In House training programs.
Undertakes field assignments
Performance is satisfactory when Technical Specialist shows a willingness to accept field assignments (subject to personal circumstances to the contrary) to fulfill project needs, performing required field assigned tasks expeditiously and in a professional manner.
Provides technical information and data to Design; coordinates information flow between Design and other Project groups
Performance is satisfactory when Technical Specialist demonstrates ability to perform squad check of CommSec and other discipline drawings and interfaces with other disciplines to obtain and furnish required information.
Initiates equipment quotation and purchase requests and prepares bid summaries
Performance is satisfactory when Technical Specialist demonstrates ability to prepare clear and concise RFQ (Request for Quotation) documents reflecting all project requirements, analyze proposals for compliance with specifications, obtain additional information as required, prepare complete and thorough technical bid evaluations, and prepare complete and concise purchase requests, incorporating all pertinent data.
Performs complex, specialized assignments as technical expert
Performance is satisfactory when Technical Specialist demonstrates ability to conduct required research, evaluate data, prepare clear and well documented reports giving recommendations or findings, and make presentations to Client and Management in a well-organized, professional manner.
Has a good understanding of Instrumentation and Controls practices
Performance is satisfactory when Technical Specialist displays a reasonable understanding of Instrumentation and Controls practices and is able to recognize problems and bring them to the attention of the Supervisor.
Displays professional attitude and image
Performance is satisfactory when Technical Specialist displays a professional attitude toward the Client, job, other disciplines.
Adds Value and Reduces Project Cost
Performance is satisfactory when Technical Specialist I participates in adding value to the Project and in reducing overall project cost through cost savings suggestions and innovations.
Displays salesmanship
Performance is satisfactory when Technical Specialist actively markets the Communications & Security Systems engineering discipline to both internal and external Clients.
