Retro Commissioning Engineer
Summary: The Retro-Commissioning Engineer performs technical activities on assigned design and retro-commissioning projects including technical studies, investigations and designs. The Retro-Commissioning Engineer assists the project team in the production of projects that are on-time, within budget and of the utmost quality. The Retro-Commissioning Engineer will provide assistance with analyses related to energy performance of buildings and systems and assists in implementation of identified energy cost savings opportunities, and other retro-commissioning responsibilities. Approximately 10-30% travel is required for this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: •Designs and prepares contract documents for design and retro-commissioning projects; engineering studies, analyses, and reports, etc. including conducting code review, duct and piping layout, load calculations, ventilation calculations, life cycle cost analysis, and equipment selection under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer. Incorporates sustainable and high performance building technology design methods into design projects.
•Mentors and directs work of BIM/CAD Technicians, Designers, EI’s, Engineers, and Retro-Commissioning Programmers in order to complete projects, and ensure quality control and professional development.
•Develops and implements energy efficient control strategies for district energy plants, HVAC systems, etc.
•Develops Long Range Plans for facility improvement and capital investment projects
•Develops one-line diagrams and schematic diagrams for various energy systems including: chilled water, electrical distribution, hot water, steam, condenser water, combined heat and power processes, etc.
•Develops drawings for Building Automation Control Systems.
•Develops measurement and verification (M&V) plans in accordance with industry standards.
•Analyzes building performance data collected via M&V activities. Identifies problems and opportunities for improvement based on the collected data.
•Attends meetings with clients as needed; Prepares and distributes meeting notes.
•Coordinates with local authorities, utilities, and municipalities to ensure compliance with construction and governmental standards.
•Coordinates project designs with other discipline including architectural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, civil, etc.
•Conducts site surveys to determine existing facility conditions.
•Conducts project job site visits during construction to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications, owner expectations, and building codes. Prepares punch lists and project observations reports to note findings.
•Prepares Proposal Requests (PR’s) and Supplemental Instructions (SI’s); and Responds to Requests for Information (RFI’s).
•Coordinates and executes retro-commissioning tasks in accordance with TME standards.
•Oversees review of project submittal documents.
•Participates in relevant professional organizations for networking and professional development.
•Upholds TME’s owner advocacy philosophy and organizational core values.

Education and Experience: •Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a Mechanical Emphasis from a four year ABET accredited college or university.
•Professional Engineer (PE) Licensure or equivalent work experience. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) on path to earning Professional Engineer (PE) Licensure will be considered.
•3+ years of analytical/design experience of various energy consuming systems including HVAC systems, control systems, lighting systems, boiler systems, chilled water systems, motors, compressors, etc.
•3+ years of Retro-Commissioning or commissioning-related experience with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, automatic temperature control systems, and/or testing, adjusting, and balancing.
•Knowledge and application of various energy codes and ASHRAE standards is preferred.
•CEM, CHFM, HFDP and LEED Accredited Professional Certification preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities: •Mentors and directs work of BIM/CAD Technicians, Designers, EI’s, Engineers, Retro-Commissioning Programmers, Administrative Assistants, and Construction Administrators in order to ensure quality control and professional development. Responsibilities include training, assigning, and directing work, answering questions, and resolving problems.
•Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
