External Job Description: HII Mechanical is hiring experienced Assembly Technicians to support our Operations Department in Newport News, VA, locations.
This position will be responsible for the fabrication and assembly (to include bonding) of metallic and composite structural components supporting the companyís unmanned undersea vehicle project.
Candidate must have ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, structure and repair manuals as well as understand symbols, flags, and general notes. Candidate must have experience working with precision measuring instruments, micrometers, calipers, tape measures, and standard scales. Candidate must also have experience with match drilling processes on metallic and composite parts.
Position will regularly utilize tools to include but not limited to torque wrenches, drills, angle motors, shears, drill press, and pneumatic riveter. Position may require candidate to obtain/maintain Confidential level clearance, but not required to start.
Lays out, fabricates, and assembles a variety of standard and nonstandard major jigs, fixtures, tool masters, master tooling gauges, and related tooling involving compound angles and complex contours where the establishment and coordination to exacting tolerances of numerous tooling holes and reference points between several planes are required. Performs measurement surveys using photogrammetry, total stations, laser trackers or other electronic 3-D instruments. Plans work to be performed and determines methods and sequence of operations working from tool design drawings or own designs. Sets up and operates optical instruments to check overall and detailed alignment, fit, or adjustment of assemblies. Develops and designs holding devices and jig and fixture details. Prepares operational sequences and shop drawings covering parts fabrication and assembly to be. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
Basic Qualifications: 2 years of related experience with High School diploma/GED and/or certification in assigned area preferred.
May be required to physically access tight, low or high spaces, involving climbing, kneeling, stooping, standing, etc. Depending on area assigned, the job may involve exposure to extreme weather/temperature and other environmental conditions encountered in manufacturing, including noise, fumes, chemicals, etc. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. without assistance.
Position requires candidate to be respirator fit qualified.
Position requires flexibility in schedule to support business operations and will require candidate to work extended hours including weekends, as needed
Preferred Qualifications: Candidate preferred to have experience with match drilling processes on metallic and composite parts.
Candidate preferred to have demonstrated experience with metrology and interpretation of metrology reports.
