BHI is recruiting for Construction Managers with Solar experience
Projects - Capital and Expense - Multiple site in the VA area (travel will be required to Corporate offices located in Richmond for meetings but primary location will be at the sites).
Position will be site located. The first priority is to provide a safe work environment, have a good understanding of construction safety requirements (OSHA 10 & 30 training required), and embrace/enforce these requirements on each project. Work under the direction of the Dominion Project Manager to drive construction of civil, mechanical, and electrical systems toward safety, schedule, cost, and quality requirements of the project. Manage the detailed construction budget and schedule with vigilance. Responsibilities include complete site construction oversight and witnessing installation of major equipment and mechanical/electrical interconnections for a solar PV generation facility. Provide site leadership as a proven expert in energy industry construction standards, methods of construction, labor management, and resource negotiation. Ensure that tagging and safety procedures are communicated through contractor orientation programs and enforced on a daily basis. Responsible for tracking and controlling planned vs. actual construction activities, weekly review of safety and productivity issues by craft and crew, and ensuring corrective action plans are effectively implemented with the contractor. Be responsible for QA/QC oversight of mechanical, electrical, and civil construction on site. Interface with equipment supplier representatives during installation of major equipment, and coordinate necessary site inspections, start-up and commissioning procedures. Participate in project team meetings as necessary to properly integrate construction and plant startup activities. Implement group-wide construction management initiatives and incorporate lessons-learned knowledge into the daily activities. Conduct daily pre-job safety briefings and plan of the day meetings. Be familiar with all contract scope, terms, and schedule requirements, and review, monitor and manage EPC contractor activities to assure contract compliance. Submit daily reports to the project manager consisting of 1) weather conditions, 2) safety/environmental summary, 3) major milestones planned near/long-term, 4) update on the construction progress, including cost plan vs. actual, 4) major activities completed that day, 5) issues/concerns, 6) photos of interest. Develop and implement a cost tracking/controlling process with the contractor that is consistent with the contract type and terms. Review, assess, and approve/reject contractor time sheets for T&M/target price contracts. Review, assess, and approve/reject contractor invoices for performance and communicate issues to the project manager as necessary. Communicate, track, and control punchlist work for all contractors, and ensure all closeout items are completed per the contract. Perform other scheduling related duties as assigned.
Extensive Project Management experience, preferably with some solar experience. Basic knowledge of engineering fundamentals. Oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing). Must have good planning, risk management, and cost/schedule management skills. Strong communication and integration skills are required to be successful in this position. Ability to implement efficient processes and provide leadership in a construction environment. Ability to work effectively with construction superintendents is required. Ability to analyze information and make sound decisions. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office application suite software programs. Ability to take direction from project leadership. Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&ID"s, and specifications, for comparison with actual field activities. BS degree in Construction Management, or equivalent, plus at least five (5) years experience managing construction of solar or major capital projects and managing multi-functional teams in a matrix environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of solar generation construction industry standards, methods, and procedures. Demonstrated previous experience and knowledge of solar power plant systems. Expert knowledge of schedule and cost control tools available on the computer, as they pertain to the construction and startup process. Ten (10) years experience managing construction of solar or major capital projects is desirable.
