Construction Engineer

We are currently seeking a Construction Engineer to join our growing team. This position will manage their assigned portion of the site work for a new steel rolling mill in Pueblo, Colorado. The Senior Construction Engineer (SCE) will report directly to the Construction Manager, and will work closely with the Owners’ Engineering Manager.

Pre-Construction Phase Duties and Responsibilities of SCE:

Consult with, advise, assist and make recommendations to the Engineering and CM Team on all aspects of planning for the Project construction
Review the Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Structural plans and specifications as they are being developed, and advise and make recommendations with respect to such factors as construction feasibility, possible economies, availability of materials and labor, time requirements for procurement and construction, and projected costs
Make recommendations to the Engineering and CM Team regarding the division of work in the plans and specifications to facilitate the bidding and awarding of contracts, taking into consideration such factors as time of performance, availability of labor, overlapping trade jurisdictions, and provisions for temporary facilities
The Construction Engineer will review plans and specifications with the Engineering and CM Team to eliminate areas of conflict and overlapping in the work to be performed by the various contractors
SCE will work closely with the Engineer and CM team to complete the competitive bidding process. After analyzing the bids thus received, the SCE will review the bid analysis with the Engineering and CM Team and, based on their joint evaluation, recommend for award appropriate contracts
The SCE will closely monitor the schedule during both the design and construction phases of the Project and be responsible for provide the Projects Control Manager with input regarding the status of each activity with respect to the Project schedule
Ensure that all EVRAZ, State and Federal safety codes, requirements, and standards are being complied within assigned area of responsibility
Construction Phase Duties and Responsibilities of the SCE:

Observe the work as it is being performed, until final completion and acceptance to assure that the materials furnished and work performed are in accordance with working drawings and specifications
In cooperation with the Engineering and CM Team, establish and implement procedures to be followed for expediting and processing all shop drawings, samples, catalogs, and other Project documents associated with Owner supplied equipment and materials
Review and process all applications for payment by involved contractors and material suppliers in accordance with the terms of the contract.
Make recommendation for and process requests for changes in the work and maintain records of change orders
Refer all questions relative to interpretation of design intent to the Engineering Team
Continue the close monitoring of the Project progress schedule, coordinating and expediting the work of all the contractors and the site supervisory staff, and provide periodic status reports to the management
With Owners Engineering Team, the SCE shall observe the Contractors' final testing and start-up of utilities, operational systems and equipment
When the SCE considers each Contractor's Work or a designated portion thereof substantially complete, the SCE shall jointly with the Contractor prepare for the Engineering Team a list of incomplete or unsatisfactory items and a schedule for their completion
Requirements

A minimum of 2 years of experience in onsite management of large-scale industrial construction projects ( at least $100 million dollars); projects related to the steel industry are preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong leadership skills; ability to direct and influence others
Ability to consistently meet assigned deadlines; driven and dedicated to success
Associate or four year degree in a related field (i.e. Engineering, Project Management, or other technical field of study)
Experience in the steel industry
Excellent team player, strong ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with employees and members of management

Target Pay Range 40-60/hr depending on experience.
