Job Description:
MMR is seeking a Generator Maintenance Technician with a vocational certificate, associate’s degree, or equivalent relevant work experience. The responsibilities would include, but not limited to, the following:
• Performing routine preventative maintenance which includes inspecting for worn parts and leaks, oil and filter changes, periodic testing, etc. on all existing generators
• Maintaining electrical systems and diesel/natural gas equipment that includes installing new or replacement of key generator components and the generator itself (if required)
• Troubleshooting and repairing AC and DC electrical systems on generators, automatic transfer switches (ATS’s), generator controls, and engine related mechanical failures. Includes being knowledgeable on the operation of all the necessary test equipment (e.g., multimeter, pressure testers, feeler gauges, etc.) and tools
• Maintaining electrical systems and diesel/natural gas equipment including installing new equipment and systems
• Performing voltage changes, rewiring, installing control panels, and voltage regulators
• Repairing and replacing defective parts
• General knowledge of the principles of electricity, AC/DC electrical systems, power and control electronics, motor and alternator controls, rotating electrical machines, load bank testing, preventative maintenance, fundamentals of AC generators, fundamentals of transfer switches, and fundamentals of a generator’s interface
• Maintaining records of repairs and maintenance performed on equipment
• Aid Facility Manager on minor electrical repairs and additions throughout Baton Rouge campus
• Some travel will be required to service generators at other district office locations

Required Skills and Qualifications:
• Experience with the maintenance of diesel motors is required
• Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to equipment operation, hazardous materials, and other work-related precautions
• Ability to work independently, prioritize, organize, problem solve, and exercise good judgement with minimal supervision
• Ability to demonstrate flexibility and creativity
• Able to work effectively under time pressure and/or deadline
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Willingness to work flexible, varying hours, including evenings and weekends as needed
• Regular and reliable attendance at work
