Designer III - Civil/Structural & Mechanical

Our client has a need for a Designer III. This is a contract position; however, it is not uncommon for assignments to transition into permanent positions with our clients. Contract: 6-12 months

Location: Stonington, CT or Charlotte, NC

Pay: $56.00-60.00/hr Nonexempt with benefits

Description:

Individual will be responsible to understand and develop structural/mechanical diagrams such as pipe and conduit support configurations and details, foundation designs, equipment mounting details, general arrangements, fire stops and seals details, process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), piping plan and section diagrams, and isometrics.

Job Summary:

Key responsibilities include:

• Individual will have the ability to produce complex engineering drawings in a 2-D or 3-D environment.
• Individual will be responsible to check drawings for accuracy including dimensions, spelling, drafting standards and completeness utilizing correct project design criteria.
• Participation in field walk downs, as necessary, to obtain measurements, verify as-built documentation, and develop field sketches in support of plant modifications and design installations will occasionally be required.
• Individual will communicate with project engineers and other disciplines to develop drawings and resolve design discrepancies.
• The ability to interface with the customer and their construction representatives to integrate designs to satisfy their standards is a must for this position.

Education & Requirements:
Requirements:
• Associates Degree in drafting, design or engineering technology or 4 years of equivalent experience in the design of mechanical systems is required.
• 7 years (minimum) of experience is required in structural engineering design and/or mechanical system design practices in addition to the education requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
• A demonstrated ability to direct drafting personnel on drawing assignments is required.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation CAD software packages (or an equivalent software package) and Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, etc. is required with competency in software applications for email and databases.
• Demonstrated technical knowledge of design practices, codes and standards applicable to structural components is required.
• Position also requires a working knowledge of structural steel types and materials as they are available in the industry.
• A working knowledge of mechanical design principles and practices is required.
• Effective time management skills are required as position may involve working on several projects concurrently.
• Ability to pass security and drug screening, and maintain unescorted commercial nuclear plant access is required.
• Successful candidate will be required to understand and comply with company policies, procedures and processes.
• Overtime work is required.
• Travel to client sites is required with periods of field/office work.

Preferred
• Knowledge or use of Raster Design or 3D modeling experience is a plus.
• Field experience using a terrestrial laser scanner and survey equipment is desirable.
• Recent plant modification package development and/or field experience on nuclear power plant projects is a plus.
