Airswift is seeking a Distribution Engineer to work for our client in New Mexico for a long term contract.
This role requires the ability to handle multiple projects and to prioritize work. The selected individual will be responsible for the development an array of challenging items including the drafting and design of engineering deliverables on multiple complex utility distribution projects. This position will provide the opportunity to interface with utility clients, contractors, and collaboration with multiple offices to create world class designs for new projects, alterations, and developments on various 2.4kV to 34.5kV overhead and underground utility distribution projects. Responsible for preparation and development of distribution construction packages for both overhead and underground construction.
Experience includes knowledge of overhead and underground construction methods, knowledge of distribution system equipment, and utilizing ArcFM and GIS information to aide in design. Performs work which involves conventional engineering practices but may involve a variety of complex features
Design distribution facilitates utilizing client standards including overhead and underground distribution facilities including distribution equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement, new feeder design and others as assigned.
Routing, design and execution of distribution line projects
Prepare proposals and engineering/project cost estimates.
Prepare calculations and equipment specifications.
Assess feasibility or soundness of proposed applications when data is insufficient, or testing is advisable.
Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel.
Design distribution construction packages for both overhead and underground projects, including distribution equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement, and new feeder design.
Review various distribution calculations, including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading calculations.
Apply strong knowledge of NESC standards and utility standards, guides, specifications, and procedures.
Participate in the development of project schedule, scope, budget, resource forecasting, and construction planning.
Responsible for effective management of change orders.
Apply knowledge and experience to complex projects to find non-standard design solutions.
Oversee or perform Quality Control reviews of project deliverables.
Oversee or perform construction administration activities.
Lead field inspections for overhead and underground electric facilities on public and private electric utility systems.
Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.
Responsible for effective communication regarding vegetation management, third-party attachments, right-of-way, and outage planning.
Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
Bachelor's degree in engineering from accredited program required OR minimum 3 years distribution experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of overhead and underground construction methods and distribution system equipment.
Experience conducting distribution field inspections.
Understanding of distribution power flow.
Experience with various distribution design tools, as well as GIS to aide in design.
Knowledge of the NESC or GO95/GO128 rules and how they apply to distribution design.
Knowledge regarding easements, right-of-way, and permitting.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Capable of devising new, more efficient approaches to solving problems and processes.
Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize work.
Knowledge of utility telecommunications, distributed energy resource integration, and advanced distribution technologies is a plus.
Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification, ArcFM and Maximo is a plus.
