Payroll Specialist

Job Summary

The Payroll Specialist primary function is processing payroll for employees. This position provides any related service in reference to income of employees and support for general ledger accounting. May be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description.


Reviews and edits timesheets for accuracy; prepares appropriate payroll data, analyzes for accuracy and elimination of errors; balances payroll, and submits data in a timely manner to Becky Son at Graywolf Industrial in Owensboro for processing
Compiles, processes and validates weekly and special payrolls; checks and adjusts payroll calculations to ensure payment to all employees is accurate and timely; processes additional compensation
Assists in troubleshooting our payroll system of record, ADP Workforce, and our in-house payroll software Sage 300CRE related to time and labor, absence, and payroll functionality.
Notifies campus of ADP known issues and system upgrades affecting employee population
Receives, processes, and maintains records on various payroll issues such as garnishments and benefits deduction adjustments. Reconciles all payroll records as necessary. Processes historical edits, and other payroll actions as necessary
Provides assistance to employees and the general public related to payroll, garnishments, and employee benefits deductions.
Performs processes related to benefits reconciliation and payroll distribution adjustments
Reconciles payroll liability accounts
On Monday holidays some work weekend work may be necessary, but this can be done at home.
May be required to perform job related duties other than those specifically delineated in this position
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher business, accounting, finance or a related field from an accredited college or university Preferred, but not required
Two to three years of payroll processing experience
Preferred Qualifications

Previous construction payroll experience
Advanced Excel capabilities (v-lookups, pivot tables, etc)
Experience in ADP Workforce and Sage 300CRE software systems
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of state and federal labor laws
Knowledge of payroll accounting processes
Knowledge of employee benefits and deductions processes as related to payroll
Knowledge of generally accepted account principles (GAAP)
Knowledge of Graywolf policies and procedures
Knowledge of analytical, quantitative (e.g. mathematical, statistics) critical thinking foundation and related financial/business skills; advanced MS Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint skills
Knowledge of computers with preferred experience in ADP and Sage 300CRE systems
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle highly sensitive and personal information with sound judgement, tact and discretion
Skill in interpersonal relations working with a wide-variety of departments and divisions of Graywolf and working with skilled craftsmen, superintendents and local office personnel.
Skill in making timely, data-driven decisions
Skill in decision making and problem solving
Skill in oral and written communication
