Electrical Field Technician
Saber Power Services, LLC, (SPS) located in Houston, TX is a nationally recognized full service, EPC, specialty engineering, procurement, construction and testing and commissioning company specializing in complex medium and high voltage electrical infrastructure in North America.
Saber Power Services seeks a professional, dedicated individual with a positive outlook for our Electrical Test Technician openings throughout Texas and Louisiana.
Essential Functions & Duties / Responsibilities
The Electrical Test Technician shall troubleshoot, repair, install and service medium and high voltage electrical systems and associated equipment; operate, inspect and perform preventive maintenance on medium and high voltage overhead and underground distribution systems; prepare estimates, and plan and manage own projects within allotted budgets; and perform related Work as required. The Electrical Test Technician shall possess the capabilities of a NETA accreditation and experience performing skilled high voltage electrical work in accordance with the techniques of the trade, based on completion of a recognized apprenticeship or its equivalent. The classification of a Electrical Test Technician is distinguished from other classifications which may perform limited elements of electrical work by its focus on voltage systems and equipment above 480 volts up to and including 138 KV, and by the scope of Work and level of skill required. Performs any other related tasks as requested by Owner's representative.
Minimum High School Graduate or GED equivalent
Preferred - Associates/Tech. Degree in Electrical Technology
Minimum of 2 to 5 years' experience as a test technician in large industrial plants.
Must hold a NETA Level II to IV certification equivalent.
Strong Troubleshooting Skills
Must be able to read one-line diagrams and wiring diagrams. Have experience in reading and understanding manufacturing drawings, Vendor/Equipment supplied data sheets, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), P&ID, and Instrument and Electrical drawings.
Must be able to interpret circuit breaker, relay, and contactor manuals.
Experience with plant shutdown/turnaround activities, including planning and scheduling.
Must possess computer skills to perform calibration and testing on various types of equipment and be proficient with the associated software and relay logging.
Able to develop appropriate maintenance procedures using vendor operations and maintenance (O&M) manuals or BIC best practices
Strong working knowledge with High, medium and low voltage (HV/MV/LV) equipment and substations
Strong knowledge of the International Electrical Testing Association (NETA), National Electrical Codes (NEC) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes
Familiar with uninterrupted power supply (UPS), battery charger systems, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and emergency generators, emergency shut down (ESD) Systems, rectifiers, soft start motor controllers, protective relays and grounding systems. Must have a good understanding of distributed control systems (DCS), SCADA, power management control systems (PMCS) and poses a strong working knowledge of Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), General Electric (GE) relays, Asea Brown Boveri (ABB), Siemens Switchgear, and microprocessor relay software.
Knowledge of electrical hazard classifications
Good written/verbal technical communication skill.
Must participate in the "on call" rotation for holidays and weekends.
Working knowledge of rigging equipment (chokers, chain falls and hand signals)
Good computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with SAP desirable)
Proficient in basic First Aid, Safe Work Permit, Incident reporting, Accident Investigation, Emergency Response Planning.
