Title: Mechanical Commissioning Engineer

Position Type: Contract

Location: Rock Falls, IL

Reports to: Commissioning Manager

Status: Non-Exempt


Job Summary:

The Mechanical Commissioning Engineer is responsible for coordinating, directing, and performing initial mechanical checkout and operations of equipment, systems, and facility. Equipment may include engines, motors, fans, pumps, boilers, etc. Systems may include water, steam, hydraulic, chemical, etc.  The Mechanical Commissioning Engineer reports to and supports the Commissioning Manager for PIC Group, Inc. and is responsible for the coordination of vendors, sub-contractors, and subordinates in the check-out verification of facility equipment, pertaining to construction installation completion, punch list and walkdowns. These responsibilities include pump/motor/fan, set and alignment approval and verification, initial motor run in and associated pre-commissioning duties, and the initial system clean-up pertaining to flushes, steam blow, chemical cleaning, air blows, etc.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The initial equipment, system, and facility run-ins, checkout, and testing.
Observes mechanical devices in operation to identify possible problems.
Follows commissioning schedule, approves mechanical system turnover via facility walkdown and punch list activities.
Coordinate the pre-commissioning, start-up, and initial facility operational phase of a project including coordination of subcontractor in the installation, layout, boundary identification for temporary power, water, piping, air, etc. to facilitate equipment, system and facility startup and testing.
Duties may consist of equipment, system, and facility construction completion, turnover verification and approval, and final client turnover documentation activities.
Starts devices to test their performance.


Job Requirements:

The successful candidate should be able to read and understand corporate programs, policies, procedures, plant drawings, and instructions specific to the Mechanical Commissioning and Startup activities. Qualifications must include the following:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to read and comprehend technical drawings and documents.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Excellent problem-solving skills to identify, analyze, and recommend solutions.
Excellent communication, leadership, motivational and teamwork skills required.
Solid organizational and administrative skills.
Solid computer skills with various applications.
Demonstrate competencies in OSHA Lockout / Tagout (LOTO) requirements.


Physical Requirements:

Ability to walk, reach, climb, stoop, and lift (up to 75 pounds).
Education / Experience:

Engineering Degree, Technology Certification, or equivalent experience.
OSHA-10 required; OSHA-30 preferred.
Minimum of 5+ years of work experience.
