[Safety Specialist] Turnaround Safety Specialist

We are currently recruiting for a Safety Specialist. This position will be located at the Commerce City, CO Refinery and will report to the Senior Manager of Safety, Health, and Emergency Response.

Purpose of Job

This position is responsible to enable safety excellence through engagement with Turnaround projects on plant production units and departments to implement safety and health programs and procedures. This position will also be responsible to authorize general and hazardous safe work permits, conduct inspections of field and response equipment, engage with service provider safety staff to support plant/unit turnarounds.

Key Accountabilities

Support Unit operations, maintenance, engineering, and other plant personnel in their understanding and execution of safety requirements
Perform work activity assessment support to O&M for general and hazardous work including permit approval for LOTO, Hot Work, Confined Space, Excavation, and others
Coordinate with plant functions (O&M, project management, reliability, etc.) to define hazard analysis and controls for non-routine tasks; develop plans to mitigate risk
Support supplemental (contract) safety staff with permitting and auditing activities for turnaround work
Own and update assigned Safety and Health procedures in areas of responsibility; serve as a safety resource and provide SME guidance for assigned procedures to units and management
Conduct auditing of units and departments to assess ongoing compliance and quality of safe work permitting processes
Be a change agent to encourage positive behaviors, engagement, and continuous safety improvement
Facilitate implementation/maintenance of One Sasol SHE Excellence Framework
Participate in and lead incident investigations as necessary or directed
Coordinate with Safety Management and Training to deliver supplemental safety training, safety moments, and safety communications as necessary
Develop and ensure effective hazard communication and control requirements are provided and reinforced to contractors

Formal Education

High School Diploma or GED
An Associate’s or higher degree in Occupational Safety or related field is desirable

Working Experience

One (1) year of safety experience or three (3) years of general operational experience in a chemical plant/refinery setting
Experience in plant emergency response is preferred.

Required Personal and Professional Skills

Sound understanding of all OSHA 1910 and 1926 related requirements
Experience with SAP, MS Office Suite, Teams and SharePoint software preferred
Effective oral and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills
Impeccable integrity and ability to protect confidential information

Target pay $45-65/hr
