Position summary: Roy Jorgensen Associates, Inc. is currently seeking a full-time Traffic Management Center (TMC) Dispatcher to provide TMC operations in the Broward County, FL area for FDOT. The TMC Dispatcher role is responsible for actively monitoring I-595 Roadway and the Reversible Lanes incidents and events impacting the roadway. A TMC Dispatcher aggressively detects incidents; provides timely, accurate traveler information to I-595 customers. TMC coordinates with First Responders and Road Rangers on safe traffic incident management to comply with Florida's Open Roads Policy goals and objectives. This position monitors the roadway utilizing ITS devices and SunGuide software to maintain an accurate real-time traffic incident status database and adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Jorgensen Company policies and procedures.

The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for monitoring the I-595 roadways and Express Lanes and verifying any impacting incidents via CCTV cameras, Florida Highway Patrol radio and website, along with other confirmable traffic incident information resources.
  • Actively enter and maintain all incidents in SunGuide database accurately recording traffic incident status information.
  • Timely dissemination of information through utilization of ITS devices (Dynamic Message Sign, Public Information Displays, 511, and email alerts) to I-595 customers.
  • Inputting and activating ITS devices for FDLE approved Amber, Silver, Purple and LEO Alerts.
  • Responsible for two-way radio, email and telephone incident notification to other districts and I-595 personnel.
  • Activation and timekeeping of the I-595 Rapid Incident Scene Clearance (RISC) program.
  • Contact the necessary on-call personnel (Roadway Maintenance or Construction) for incident scene needs as determined by the emergency guidelines documents.
  • Dispatching the Road Ranger and monitoring the radio to ensure that all pertinent information is being logged in the SunGuide software.
  • Monitor and track the I-595 Road Rangers via the GPS system to ensure safety
  • Monitor the status of all ITS devices, Express Lanes Assets and systems and troubleshoot as necessary.
  • Report device and system outages to ITS Operations Team and document in the MIMS system.
  • Real-time quality control of information being displayed on DMS, and Florida 511 website.
  • Monitoring cameras regularly to detect events as allowed by the incident workload on any given shift.
  • Answering phone calls and documenting SunGuide reports for ITS Maintenance contractors doing preventative maintenance and repairs to ITS field devices.
  • Awareness and management of special events that impact the I-595 roadways.
  • Daily review of the shift change report and ITS help desk report.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; must also successfully complete Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Joint Task Force (JTF) / State Law Enforcement Radio System (SLERS) fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time monitoring Intelligent Transportation Systems such CCTV camera displays, law enforcement radio broadcasts, answering/responding to calls and communicating to other staff or partner agencies.
  • Constantly operate a computer and other monitoring equipment


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of major local roads
  • Experience in a dispatch center environment is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and disseminate relevant information from a variety of resources including CCTV, field personnel, internet, two-way radio and customers.
  • Ability to work under stress and prioritize and perform real-time traffic management activities within time constraints, during crisis, or other stressful situations.
  • The ability to work alternate schedules (nights, weekends, and holidays) and short notice work assignments.
  • Operational knowledge and skill in the use of Window's operating system, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • Ability to perform real-time activities, prioritize tasks and complete them within a defined period.
  • Ability to effectively utilize a two-way radio system.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as TMC rules, operating procedures or other traffic related documents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with I-595 employees.

Schedule:

Full time; Must be flexible. Second (afternoon) or third shift (overnights) available.

Salary:
$17-19/hr, depending on experience.
