Bechtel is seeking a Mechanical Designer P&ID with use of Smart Plant P&ID, for the Mining & Metals team. The position will be responsible for planning and conducting independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of design on a project to incorporate that information into the P&ID diagrams. Requires knowledge of applicable industry standards and codes, accepting design practices and quality standards for a global business unit.
Support and review and/or preparation of P&ID diagrams (Equipment, lines, valves, Instrumentation & Control), flow diagrams (PFD's) and if required drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) designing models and construction drawings.
Support to generate list of lines, valves and mechanical equipment.
Monitoring and checking work for compliance with approved design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe plant operation and construction economy.
Preparing design and drafting procedures to standardize design effort.
Coordinating or makes jobsite visits, as required, to resolve problems and interpret drawings and documents.
Reviewing or defining engineering scope changes, as required, for project management.
Endorsing or preparing reports of work progress, as required, for project and discipline use.
Maintaining up-to-date skills in Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) relevant to designing work and ensuring that maximum use is made thereof.

Qualifications and Skills
The Mechanical Designer shall be knowledgeable and/or experienced in:
Higher Level Technician degree or similar, in Design and/or Drawing of Engineering projects, with experience as a Technical Designer or Designer in a mechanical discipline, with desirable courses and/or specialized training in drawing, design, standards and/or practices engineering design.
In particular, the basic requirements for the Smart Plant P&ID Mechanical Designer are:
Knowledge of Smart Plant P&ID software.
Knowledge of Engineering process flow diagrams (PFD's), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID's).
Basic knowledge of mechanical equipment in concentrator plants, instrumentation, piping and processes.
Desirable basic knowledge in programs such as: Markup Insight, Naviswork, Power BI, Data Broker, Aconex, etc.
Basic experience in the mining area is required.
The candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience, preferably related to the mining area.
Advanced English: written and spoken.
Desirable Knowledge of equipment and material fabrication sequencing.
Desirable Knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to the discipline’s design responsibilities.
Desirable Knowledge of Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), industry and regulatory standards, design criteria and codes relevant to the discipline.
Desirable Knowledge of discipline Design Guides, mathematical formulae and design calculations used in the discipline.
Desirable Knowledge of technical responsibilities of other groups associated with the total design effort.
Desirable Knowledge of procedures used for the procurement and quantity control of bulk materials applicable to the discipline.
Knowledge of BSAPs applicable to the specific discipline work.
