[Design Engineer] Civil-Structural Designer - Y-12 - 7448

Edgewater is seeking qualified candidates for a Civil-Structural Designer opportunity for our customer in Oak Ridge, TN at the Y-12 National Security Complex.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Provide Mission Engineering with full time structural design engineering support for minor facility modifications in Cat 2, 3/Non-Nuclear, Balance of Plant facilities, and Backbone Infrastructure Utility areas.

The responsibilities for the design engineers are:
Candidate must be proficient with developing structural designs including: drawings (plans, sections and details) for various materials of construction (concrete, steel, masonry, cold-formed steel, timber), engineering instructions, data sheets, equipment specifications, equivalency evaluations, structural calculations, equipment anchorage, report preparation, drafting or oversight of drafting, and preparation of construction specifications in the form of general notes on the drawings.
Candidate must effectively and cooperatively work as a team member of an integrated project team, or as a technical lead for a multi-discipline task and will routinely provide design verifications and squad checks; input to system engineers and other plant customers. Design engineer will routinely perform walkdowns in the existing plant facilities in order to generate design documents and provide field support to craft personnel. This position will require technical expertise and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field of Structural Engineering.
Candidate must have familiarity with and experience in developing designs in accordance with ASME Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1), and a variety of CSA related issues relative to non-reactor nuclear facilities, natural phenomena events, structural rehabilitation, and building evaluations. Must also be familiar with consensus design codes. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to building evaluations and modifications, seismic analyses and rehab, oversight of outside engineering firms, and machine installations.
Experience in an NRC or DOE regulated environment is desirable. Requires an understanding of Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, Conduct of Maintenance for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment.
CAD drafting experience not required but preferred, along with any 3D modelling experience. Structural modelling experience with STAAD Pro and GT STRUDL also preferred.

Basic Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited school with a minimum of 5 years’ experience.

Additional Qualifications:
Requires strong verbal and written communication skills
The ability to interface effectively with various clients, production and support organizations, management, and hourly wage employees.
Must be willing to work in a production environment.

Security:
Preference is for candidates who possess a current Active “Q” clearance or be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance.
