Field Technician Composite and Coating Specialist - will play a key role in providing continued quality of service to our Wind Power customers. This position will require the physical ability to climb up and down Wind Turbines, Step ladders tp access blades, suspended or Arial lift platforms upwards of 250 feet in the air. Candidates with a background in auto body repair and/or fiberglass boat building/repair preferred. Exceptional hand/eye coordination to inspect/repair the exterior surface of the turbine blades, tower sections, and Nacelles; they must have the ability to analyze and react in stressful, high risk situations, and participate in the development of new/improved field procedures and best practices.
Previous experience with Siemens or Gamesa Wind Turbine blades desired including successful completion of Siemens Gamesa Blade Repair training.
Knowledge and ability to inspect and repair Wind Turbine blades and paint coatings on tower sections; demonstrate ability to independently assess blade damage and determine whether or not he/she can perform the work independently or with another repair technician, or refer to another technician more highly skilled in such repairs; the candidate shall have exceptional reporting skills i.e. after completed repairs/inspections the technicians will write out written repair reports with photos and description of the repair carried out. They must demonstrate the ability to comply with all established safety precautions to adhere to the exceptional safety record of Siemens Gamesa Wind Power. Skill development in the Rough Finish and Fine Finish at a Blade Manufacturing facility is preferred. Specific grinding, fiberglass, and resin applications is required. Ability to work in protective suits, respirators, masks, and gloves is required.
Demonstrates strong Initiative and motivation to learn/teach new blade repair techniques and translate learning into personal success; motivation and ability to work flexible work schedule; experience within the fiberglass industry and/or auto body repair field; hands-on experience with related repair machinery; excellent customer service and communication skills; ability to organize and plan daily/weekly work with a high level of quality orientation; ability to analyze and resolve problems independently with a high level of results orientation.
Required Education and skills:
High school diploma/GED
Preferred Education and experience:
•5 yrs post high school in technical role
•3 yrs post vocational/technical certification or degree
•Software: MS suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), PDF
•Previous experience in fiberglass technologies
•Military - Aircraft mechanic
•Current or expired Siemens FR technician level C or D
•Vocational Auto of Boat repair
•2 yrs international experience in a simular role
