Primary duties are to provide control system engineering and technical support for the hydro fleet. Assignments will include PLC programming, equipment checkout and start up, field troubleshooting and engineering. Primary discipline area is electrical with an emphasis on control systems.
Successful candidate will model Environmental, Health, and Safety principles, focus on unit availability and reliability, develop simple engineering solutions to complex problems, and follow all company policies and procedures.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
General electrical engineering support of hydro control system across the service region. Assignments will involve engineering and programming for hydro station control systems to meet regulatory compliance. Supports interfaces with equipment typical of hydroelectric facilities: generators, governors, excitation equipment, instrumentation, circuit breakers, protective relays, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, panel boards, batteries, chargers, inverters, grounding, smart devices, transducers and variable frequency drives.
Providing hands on field engineering and technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems with PLC equipment, operator interface software, and associated interfaces and communications with systems above.
Providing after hours technical support for operations and technical staff for controls related issues.
Providing instrumentation solutions for hydro generation facilities. Preparation of thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.
Accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities. Engineering support such as analysis of operational events and support for unit outages.
Inspections of power plant systems and facilities. Identify safety, maintenance, and/or operational needs. Development of recommendations and plans for repairs.
Development of construction/installation engineering instructions and systems operation procedures.
Scope and lead installation of controls related projects and upgrades.
Support Hydro I&C technicians with troubleshooting field problems.
Travel across the Carolina's Hydro fleet required to support capital and O&M projects.
Office environment with frequent site visits to hydro stations. Normal working hours are 6:00 AM till 4:30 PM Monday - Thursday.
Site work will include exposure to extreme temperatures, confined spaces and heights, noise, and working around heavy machinery and energized equipment.
Work assignments will require the ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull, climb (requiring the use of a safety harness), and lift loads up to 50 lbs.
Travel on and off the Duke system which will occasionally require overnight stay.
After hours and weekend work as required to support operations.
Ability to work a flexible schedule and provide after hour support.
