Site Construction Manager with solar power generation experience needed for a 15 months+ temporary opening in Richmond, VA.
Extensive Project Management experience, preferably with some solar experience. Basic knowledge of engineering fundamentals. Oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing). Must have good planning, risk management, and cost/schedule management skills. Strong communication and integration skills are required to be successful in this position. Ability to implement efficient processes and provide leadership in a construction environment. Ability to work effectively with construction superintendents is required. Ability to analyze information and make sound decisions. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office application suite software programs. Ability to take direction from project leadership. Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDís, and specifications, for comparison with actual field activities. BS degree in Construction Management, or equivalent, plus at least five (5) years experience managing construction of solar or major capital projects and managing multi-functional teams in a matrix environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of solar generation construction industry standards, methods, and procedures. Demonstrated previous experience and knowledge of solar power plant systems. Expert knowledge of schedule and cost control tools available on the computer, as they pertain to the construction and startup process. Ten (10) years experience managing construction of solar or major capital projects is desirable.
Position will be site located. Work under the direction of the Project Manager to drive construction of civil, mechanical, and electrical systems toward safety, schedule, cost, and quality requirements of the project. Manage the detailed construction budget and schedule with vigilance. Responsibilities include complete site construction oversight and witnessing installation of major equipment and mechanical/electrical interconnections for a solar PV generation facility. Provide site leadership as a proven expert in energy industry construction standards, methods of construction, labor management, and resource negotiation. Ensure that tagging and safety procedures are communicated through contractor orientation programs and enforced on a daily basis. Responsible for tracking and controlling planned vs. actual construction activities, weekly review of safety and productivity issues by craft and crew, and ensuring corrective action plans are effectively implemented with the contractor. Be responsible for QA/QC oversight of mechanical, electrical, and civil construction on site. Interface with equipment supplier representatives during installation of major equipment, and coordinate necessary site inspections, start-up and commissioning procedures. Participate in project team meetings as necessary to properly integrate construction and plant startup activities. Implement group-wide construction management initiatives and incorporate lessons-learned knowledge into the daily activities
