Title: Maintenance Technician

Position Type: Direct Hire

Location: Stockton, CA 

Reports to: Maintenance Manager

Status: Non-Exempt 

Job Summary:  

PIC Group has an excellent opportunity in renewable energy for a Maintenance Technician position, located in Northern California.  The Maintenance Technician reports directly to the Maintenance Manager and will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing all mechanical equipment at a wood fired steam turbine electrical generation power plant.  The Maintenance Technician is involved in performing tasks from routine maintenance to complex troubleshooting that require a high level of independent judgment, initiative, and discretion.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Performs repair and maintenance work following blueprint sketches and procedures involving such tasks as drilling, tapping, fabricating, welding, machinery alignment and quality control.
•    Identifies mechanical design, machinery improvements or problems and recommends modifications necessary for resolution.
•    Follows safety/environmental rules and regulations, implements safe working practices and immediately identifies hazards and recommends and implements repairs.
•    Approaches all departments as a team to support the generating plant attaining their goals.
•    Provides training and technical guidance to other team members.
•    Schedules, coordinates, and works with contractors on specific tasks as required.
•    Maintains a clean work area at the end of each job/task.
•    Maintains mechanical equipment associated with biomass and gas fired boilers, steam turbines, electrical generators, compressors, water treatment equipment, pumps, valves, and other auxiliary equipment.
•    Utilizes maintenance reporting system to record time and material use, problems identified and corrected, and any future actions required.
•    Provides a complete history of maintenance performed on all equipment.
•    Operates a wide variety of construction equipment, power equipment, hand tools to include rigging and staging erection.
•    Conducts equipment and system tagging as directed by both corporate as well as plant rules and regulations.
•    Reads and interprets drawings, sketches, prints and specifications as required.
•    Orders parts as needed for maintenance and repair.
•    Performs various operations tasks on an as-needed basis and other tasks as assigned.
•    May be called upon to respond to emergency situations and overtime during off-hours.

Job Requirements:

•    Demonstrated use of standard mechanical tools and measurement devices.
•    Demonstrated knowledge and understanding in a minimum of four (4) of the following skills: pipefitting, welding, machining, rigging, rotating machine repair, fabrication, machine alignment, piping schematics, mechanical drawings, basic vibration analysis.
•    Proven ability to locate, troubleshoot, adjust and correct defects in complex mechanical equipment.
•    Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices associated with a power plant environment.
•    Ability to read, write and speak the English language as well as perform basic mathematical computations.
•    Must participate in and comprehend training on mobile heavy equipment, loaders, trucks, and welding.
•    Demonstrated capability to work with others in a team environment.
•    Demonstrated ability to communicate and coordinate work with others on technical subjects across job families.
•    Must be able to work weekends, holidays and rotating shifts as required.

Physical Requirements:

•    Duties require walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods of time, climbing vertical and inclined ladders and stairs, and lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
•    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
•    Must be able to use protective equipment correctly such as hard hats, safety glasses, ear protection, safety shoes, gloves, and vests as required.
•    This position may require the use of various respirators, a Pulmonary Function Test, and Respirator Fit test is required.

Education / Experience:

•    A high school diploma or GED is required.  
•    Must have a valid California state issued driver’s license. 
•    5+ years’ experience as a mechanic or machinist, preferably in a biomass fired steam turbine power plant environment.

The pay scale for this position is carefully determined based on the expected range of base pay, taking into consideration the specific work location. Within this range, employee pay will be determined by a combination of factors such as knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, education, and overall performance. As this job posting is available in multiple locations, the expected pay scale may vary depending on the specific geographic area.

Compensation Range per hour: $41 - 45
