Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties and responsibilities involved in the maintenance, repair, service and installation of equipment, machinery and related facilities at one or more water treatment plants; performs related maintenance oriented tasks, keeps records and prepares reports; and performs a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
Inspect, maintain, repair and service water treatment plant machinery and equipment including pumps, valves, valve actuators, motors, engines, meters, drives, tanks, reservoirs, compressors, chemical feed and storage systems, UV disinfection systems, heating and air conditioning systems, and other equipment typical to a water treatment facility.
Install and rebuild pumps, motors, piping systems and specialized water treatment equipment.
Fabricate parts and equipment; operate welding, cutting, and general fabrication equipment.
Pack, lubricate, clean and paint mechanical equipment and motors.
Inspect newly installed mechanical equipment to ensure safe and satisfactory operation and functionality.
Perform preventive maintenance checks and servicing on equipment.
Participate in the repair and maintenance of industrial electrical equipment.
Keep accurate maintenance records.
Respond to emergencies and problems after hours and on weekends as directed.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required in a safe manner.
Regular attendance at the work site.
Perform routine plant operational assignments as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Principles and practices of water treatment plant operation.
Characteristics of chemicals used in water treatment processes.
Basic and semi-advanced mechanical, electrical and hydraulic principles.
Principles and practices of mechanical equipment maintenance and repair.
Principles and practices of general construction.
Materials, methods, practices, and equipment used in water treatment facility construction, maintenance and repair activities.
Principles, methods, materials and tools employed in the maintenance and repair of water treatment plant equipment and facilities.
Practices and techniques of carpentry, metal fabrication, pipe fitting, general electrical and mechanical construction.
Safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to work.
Water treatment plant operating consoles and personal computers.
Use of hand, power tools and equipment.
Operation of front-loader, tractor, and hoist.
Learn to perform a variety of repair, maintenance, and servicing skills.
Perform moderately heavy manual labor and to lift up to sixty pounds (60 lbs.).
Learn preventive maintenance and inspection methods.
Accurately read and record data from gauges and meters.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Work irregular hours when emergencies occur.
Learn and operate water treatment plant equipment.
Organize and prioritize work.
Perform maintenance and repair of plant equipment and devices.
Respond appropriately under pressure and exercise sound judgment.
Keep accurate records and prepare clear reports.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
