[Procurement Manager] Assistant Fiber Procurement Manager

The Position
We currently have an opening for an Assistant Fiber Procurement Manager based out of our location in Port Townsend, Washington. The Assistant Fiber Procurement Manager is directly responsible for the procurement strategy and inventory management of recycle fiber (OCC/DLK). Manages quality and control, striving to receive the highest quality material available while achieving company financial targets.

About Port Townsend Paper Corporation (PTPC)
The Port Townsend Paper (“PTPC”) mill has been in continuous operation for over 90 years. We operate on a continuous basis to produce OCC and kraft pulp which is used to manufacture linerboard, kraft paper, corrugating medium and market pulp. We have built a strong and loyal customer base by developing and nurturing strategic partnership-style relationships.

Job Responsibilities
OCC Program Management:
Manages inventory and usage forecasting to drive purchasing decisions.
Forecasts price and market trends.
Manages procurement strategy and executes purchasing decisions with suppliers to supply the mill at the optimum quality, price, and inventory level.
Builds and manages supplier and industry relations.
Works in conjunction with operations on inventory, usage, and quality.
Manages OCC quality program and works with suppliers to improve quality on a continuous basis.
Loads scheduling with suppliers and coordination with Logistics to meet financial goals.
Audits supplier quality and safety; addresses safety issues with urgency.

Fiber Procurement Database Management:
Application troubleshooting and training.

Fiber Procurement Reporting and Records Management:
Prepares a broad range of weekly and monthly fiber reports for the mill and suppliers.
Manages contract document control, supplier files, and contract change administration.

Scow Management:
Coordinating chip barge loading, delivery, and shifting schedules for efficiency and cost savings between mill and barge suppliers.

Establishes and maintains methods and records:
Value added sale of products including reconciliation of payments from customers.
Coordinates with accounting for month end record keeping.

Shared responsibility for attendance at required meetings/conferences, i.e., Olympic Logging Conference, WASIC, etc.
Work in conjunction with the Fiber Procurement Manager to administer:
Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) /Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certification records and audits.
Account reconciliation for suppliers and buyers.
Inventory analysis and review via drone and drone data.
Coordinate Fiber Procurement business in Manager’s absence
Special projects or work as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Business to business relationship management experience.
Contract negotiation experience.
Strong mathematical skills.
Accounting/financial process knowledge.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing market environment.
Proficient with MS Office applications, specifically MS Excel.
Willingness to travel.

Required Education
College degree or equivalent business experience.

Required Experience
5 years of experience in purchasing or a related field.
Pulp and Paper and/or Recycle experience is desirable.
