Role Summary:
As a NDE Specialist (Level III) you will be responsible for the following activities and or functions:
NDT Certification Authority: controls and approves a single standardized company “written practice” procedure for the training, qualification, and certification of NDT Level I and II technicians. Classroom training of technicians for NDT methods requires a Level III in that method. The required on-the-job training hours can be performed and documented while under the direct supervision of a certified Level II technician. Written examinations must be developed and graded by a certified Level III in that method, but the proctoring of the written examinations can be delegated to a facility supervisor/manager. Practical examinations must be developed and graded by a certified Level III in that method, but only has to be witnessed and documented by a certified Level II in that method. Qualifications of a candidate for certification must be verified by a Level III before a certification can be issued and signed by a Level III of that method.
NDT Procedure, acceptance criteria, and technique approval: must be reviewed and signed as approved by a Level III in that method, but can be written by anyone capable of composing the code requirements for that specific process. This would apply to both Corporate engineering NDT procedures as well as plant-specific NDT procedures.
Vendor NDT Procedure reviews: depending on the facility Quality Manual requirements, vendor procedures may have to be reviewed and approved for use by a certified NDT Level III in the specific method.
Vendor NDT Program reviews: typically the vendor's written practice procedure for the training, qualifying, and certifying NDT personnel are reviewed by the quality audit team. However, subject matter expertise of an NDT Level III on this type of document review is encouraged and requested.
Vendor NDT Quality concerns: subject matter expertise is often requested when vendor quality issues arise from received components that do not match the contractual NDT requirements of the order.
Customer NDT Quality concerns: subject matter expertise is often requested when customers raise quality issues from received components that do not match the contractual NDT requirements of the order.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate with production in order to plan and execute inspections
Manage relations with customers or third party inspectors
Participate in external supplier quality testing and audits
Participate in Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) events
Monitor product portfolio KPIs and drive effective root cause corrective actions where appropriate to address gaps to agreed targets
Manage customer witness inspections
Maintain and analyze data to provide information or identify problems for management and stakeholders on the state of a process or product quality
Create awareness in the Leadership community regarding what opportunities have been discovered or developed and how to realize them
Collaborate with the department or other company departments to clarify / resolve issues techniques related to NDE inspection activities.
Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
HS Diploma/GED Or Relevant field and 5-7 years relevant experience
Experience in NDE procedure writing, reviews of NDE program adequacy
Experience in managing a team of NDE inspectors and certifying inspectors to a written practice.
Level III PT, MT, RT, UT in accordance with ASNT TC-1A for the role. (Company certifications are not accepted)
Understanding of product / process flow
Strong organizational skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred:
NDE of Cast products
Level III PT, MT, RT, UT in accordance with ISO 9712.
